I got the remote start for Christmas thinking that I could install it myself.    I still believe I can, but I decided to call around to see what it would cost to have someone else do it.  I received a quote of $240 and $300 to have it installed.    Apparently I need a bypass module also that was included in those prices.

So my question is, is it really that hard to install?  Does anyone have a wiring diagram for my 04 avalanche and what wires they actually hooked up from the remote start.    There are a lot of wires with this remote start and I have my doubts that all of them are needed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I hope someone who is an alarm guru answers you soon and hopefully has found a solution to past problems. I have read in many posts over the years of electrical gremlins and starting issues cropping up because the factory alarm clashes with aftermarket alarms added. Some owners have gone so far as to remove their aftermarket alarms to get the problems from reoccurring. I personally have always stayed with the factory alarms and supplemented it with a visible theft deterrent like "The Club" and also finally fully coverage insurance as well as trying to park in secure locations.
As we all know though if a determined thief wants your car/truck etc. they will get it......the idea is to make yours noisier and harder to get then the other vehicles around you.
I would trust the professional alarm installers unless they are ripping you off there must be a reason for those costs to install and the module may be needed to prevent the issues in the older threads on this site?
Maybe a phone call to www.crutchfield.com service dept. could provide the answer and maybe they have the module for sale too?

Good luck with your install.

This is something that can screw up your truck if you do it wrong.

Yes you need a bypass module if you plan to add a remote start. It bypasses the vehicles security system to allow the vehicle to start. Some units will include the bypass module.
Also you need to get the model number correct. I believe you ACTUALLY have a Viper 4105V as a 4501 doesn't exist. (Unless it is a fake)

Here is the module you will need. Assuming you have power windows you MUST use a module like this to interface into the door locks as they are handled over the datalink and NOT directly.

This module basically goes between your alarm module and the truck to allow your alarm to talk to the truck. It may also allow you to use the horn as a "panic" alarm.

MOST places have $150 INSTALLED pricing on remotes in my area. But also some remote starts include the bypass module.

I took a 2 week class through Metra for installation of Alarms and Audio back in like 1993 and received a MECP mid level certificate for it but never used it professionally.

Some items you will want to have to do a proper install:
Good soldering iron. Butane is the best but you have to be careful of the exhaust as it will melt stuff. Pencil electric will also work but the extension cord sucks to work around.
Thin solder as it will melt nicely.
Scotch 33+ electrical tape, various sized heat shrink tubing. Nothing better to use when using electrical tape. Others won't stick or wont stay stuck.
Digital Volt Ohm Meter
Wire Stripper like this:

A wire cutter
some wire ties
Some cardboard to put on your carpet to catch solder drips so it doesn't hit the carpet. It is hot so it will embed and not come out.

Do NOT use scotch lock connectors or anything other than soldering to wires for alarms/remote starts. T taps, crimping and any other NON-soldering method is very bad to use for an alarm or remote start.

Note that if you never have soldered or plan to use this stuff again your better off paying a professional. And generally they don't like to install others devices so expect them to charge you much higher pricing as you will expect them to fix it if it breaks.

If your game then I can help you through it. But if you price out the stuff I mentioned above your going to likely be close enough to the price of someone else installing that it won't be worth your bother.

I have a full alarm in my truck that uses the horn as the siren as it sounds like it is factory that way. But I also have a Cellular link that allows my phone, tablet or PC to communicate with it. I paid some friends $500 for this alarm installed. It included the bypass and does talk over the datalink. I paid them even though I could have installed it as most companies don't warranty alarms or starters if not installed by a certified installer.

Newer vehicles are easier to install remote starts into since they already have most everything in place. My '09 CTS just required one additional wire to be added to add remote start capabilities. I also have the "Drone" in my CTS and it will send me a variety of data through my phone.

Newer vehicles use the CANBUS network for everything so everything can be controlled via it.

I bought a bypass for about 50 bucks. In my 04 its extremely easy to install because the Avy is all Data Wire controlled. Literally 1 wire to splice for the function of door alarm sensors, triggers... etc.... the other splicing would be the alarm power, ignition, etc.. Go to Lessco electronics on ebay, send a message, and he will send u the one that he likes best, and will have it programmed. Worked awesome for me.
