What an expensive day. I visited my local Viper dealer and had the V200 http://www.viper.com/security/viper/gps.asp installed along with the Viper 790 alarm/autostart. What a COOL toy. I can do way more with it than onstar. I'm already using a Garmin StreetPilot III Deluxe for navigation so Onstar is useless. I can track the truck from the phone or website. Start it, unlock it, arm it etc. all from the phone or site. The system is totally hidden, in the event they do get by the starter kill and drive off, I'll just have it tracked and shut off :) The unit is totally hidden (except for the alarm antenna needed for remote feedback) The company is really stingy with their uses though. I need to call Monday and complain. I used up 14 accidently. Still, it's alot cheaper than Onstar and harder to disable.

it looks pretty cool... can you give us an idea on the price of the equipment package and a per month charge.

It boils down to what features are used and how frequently. Starting the truck via the internet? That sounds like a feature I would use once to test it, and never again. I feel that is the case for a majority of owners. Tracking the truck via the internet would be a nice feature if someone else drove the vehicle, but that might be paranoia talking. In the event of an accident, OnStar will contact rescue services, whereas the V200 is limited to reporting via the internet that your speed just went from 60 mph to 0 mph and you are now located in the middle of a farmer's field.

It sounds like a neat gadget, but for what it costs, I think most people will stick with OnStar. A nice addition? Sounds like it. Making OnStar useless? Hmm.

OnStar makes my hotel and dinner reservations... no GPS will do that.
