What are the cahnces of getting my 03 with 96xxx miles done under warranty? 03 Escalade EXT

You bought it used right?  Not likely...but go to Caddy dealer and ask...

Dealer was kool about it but said to call Caddy since it was out of Warranty. Im on hold with them right now but I dont think they will cover it. Those non-americans that work for GM CS is a joke.

I found a guy close to me that will fix it for $60 + Shipping

Hi Stephen,

The instrument cluster panel has started to go haywire on my 2004 AV..I mentioned it to my dealer and I was told that because it has over 70k, it is not covered. I think that its bs because this is a problem in other GM vehicles and has been for years.
The letter that you received states 7 years or 70k....guess I'll go another round with the GM and try to get this handled w/o paying an arm and a leg...the part is $350.00 plus labor.

I can get you a better one much cheaper.  Email me at leeroywade@gmail.com or call me 757-634-1317.  I am a site sponsor.  For references, search my screen name here.

My local dealer replaced mine at around 95,000. I told them it had been going bad for a while, and they worked it so it was fixed and I paid a $50.00 "diagnostic fee"  Before tthe letters came out, I was in at around 90,000 miles and they quoted over $600 to replace it. I told them for that price I did not need a speedometer. Letter came a month or 2 later and I felt they treated me right.

It really became a problem when the fuel guage stopped working. Speedometer I could live without, but mine is a 2500, and I had to start stopping at every other gas station to make sure I did not run out.

Had my appointment at the dealership on Friday with 81.7K on the odometer.  Got the initial quote for full replacement cost.  I mentioned I'd had the issue before - sporadic and went away after a day or two.  Dealership checked vehicle history and it didn't show anything since I'd never put in a claim.  It boiled down to the history under the warranty period.

Made a spirited yet friendly position that it was a safety issue, was aware other AV owners had made a claim over warranty period, loyal customer for service etc.  Dealership said they'd look into it.

After the normal oil change/tire rotation/safety inspection the service rep said they'd cover the cost of the cluster if I paid 2 hours of labor @ $85.  I didn't get too far suggesting the possibilty of swapping out for a different type cluster and accepted the offer.

Just a follow up in case it helps or thoughts.  o/

Instrument cluster just started acting eratically and i brought it into the dealership.  They instantly knew about this recall and say that it will be repaired under warranty.  My truck is now 7 years old and has 155,000 km on it, thats about 90,000 miles.  Im so happy to not have to pay for this.   :B:

I just joined the site, in part because of this very problem.  Chevy was not helpful for me.

I had this problem started about 2 years ago, unfortunately it was during the class action suit.  In the end, I was told my 2005 was not covered.  I wrote to the Attorney General for Alabama, twice.  I got a call from GM customer service center, twice, that was a bunch of hot air.   Now I see (somewhere) where certain 2005's were covered.  But I'm over 100,000 miles so it would be futile.

I guess I need to find a repair or exchange option.  Any suggestions on a good fix it place?

Just got mine repaired '04, 34,800 mi, Al Serra Chevy said they'd pay half about $140

I sent mine to Southern Electronics, 1 yr warranty and it's supposed to be rebuilt, all steppers (newer version) and all lights replaced (even though lights were all good. It costs a little more than some other places, got it back pretty quick.

The best is to buy a replacement, the cheapest is to replace the stepper motors there are plenty of posts on how to replace them

thanks.  Are those posts in this section of the forum?  I did a search under 'Speedo' to pull this one and a few others up but only a mention of the stepper motors in most.  This is the only post that comes up when i search stepper motors.

I'm kinda disappointed they cut off the warranty at that point (I guess they had to cut it off somewhere) but my '03 Avy now sits more than it moves, and only has just under 73,000 but suddenly the speedo moves kinda like the second hand on a watch. I'll call my dealer, but although I inquired about erratic readings from my temp gauge a long time ago I doubt it'll do any good.  :(

The starting point on my speedo (when at a stop) dropped 20 mph a day from 70mph until it was back at Zero (at a stop) today, so it is reading /working as normal for now....

I had my cluster replaced about a year ago under the service bulletin.  The new cluster made an intermittent grinding noise but never when I was close to the dealership (I told them about this but they needed to hear it for themselves before they could act on it).  This weekend, with 73K miles on the truck, the new cluster went dead.  Waiting for a call back from the service manager to see if they will replace it even though I'm out of the warranty period.

Ok so maybe I'm just retarded but I did a search for stepper motor replacement and I can't find a detailed explanation on how to replace the stepper motor on my 05. It just went 2 days ago and shows me doing like 140mph  Where do I look to find help in a step by step explanation on how to get the cluster off and then open and then how to actually replace the stepper motor? Also, where do most of you find these motors? Thanks for any help, I'll keep searching here in the mean time. :beating:

poorboy126 do you know how to desolder and solder, as for how to take out the cluster. You pull off the bezel, unscrew the screws that hold it on, unplug it and pull open the tabs that hold the cluster together.

I'm close... My odometer just ticked over to 73,000 miles. I bought my '04 in October of 2003.
