I was thinking of putting in colored lights for the perimeter and all the interior lighting like the reading lights and the ones on the door. Since I have a red Z71 I was thinking of red lights. I thing it would be pretty cool you unlock your door with keyless remote and all read around the truck
I saw the parts list posted here with all the part numbers for all the lights.
Any thoughts on this and where?s a good place to get the colored bulbs?

I got all of my red interior and and outside mirror lights from driverfx.com They were cheap and fast to ship. The only thing was they only came in red or blue. I love red, so that's what I did.

I have changed my puddle lights, door reflector lights, dome light, and instument cluster lights all to Blue LEDs. THey look GREAT!

Just recieved and am in the process of converting the rest of the dash (AC cluster/ headlight switch area) and the Window switches to LED. ?Will try to post photos when all is done.

WERE THE INSTURMENT LIGHTS EASY TO GET TOO ...IVE DONE MINE ALL RED EXCEPT THOSE

Depends if you have an 02 or 03. By your sig, looks like an 02.

All you do is take out your cluster and take off back plastic exposing the bulbs. These bulbs are removable. (Unlike the 03). They are a 194 bulb in a twist-lock base. You can either find more twistlock bases somewhere. (Not made anymore bare, only made with bulbs soldered in, but available in junk-yards), or just break out the bulbs from your existing set. (That is what I did). Hold the base, and push an allen wrench through the bottom hole pushing out the bulb. THe contacts are solderered, so don't try to save the bulb.

The LEDs I use have a standard 194 base which slide into the twistlock fine, but I bend the leads straight, fish them through the base, then bend them over so they slide btween the twistlock base and elect. contact.

Sounds confusing, but is very easy. Took me about 15 minutes to do entire cluster.

Be sure not to use a "spot" led, look for more of a "flood light" design.

I get my bulbs here:

Ok how do the perimeter lights come out?
I pulled the tab in but it still seems stuck. I dont want to pull to hard as it seems somthing will break. Do I have to take the whole mirror apart? I saw a post with pictures on taking it apart but now I cant find it.

To change out the mirror lights, remove the plastic triangle shaped cover on the inside of the door. Pull from the top, as there is a tab on the bottom preventing it from coming out inadvertantly. Then, pull out the piece of foam and disconnect the power to the mirror by pulling apart the plastic fitting. Then, holding onto the mirror, use a power drill to take out the three bolts holding the mirror on. Then, holding the mirror in y9ur lap, reach through the now exposed guts of the mirror and push out the plastic housing that has the bulb in it. then take a small phillips screwdriver and unscrew the screws holding the lid on the cover. Squeeze the metal tabs closer together so that it will hold the new bulb (it's a little smaller than the factory one). Put in the bulb and screw the cover back on. Make sure you do this tightly so that no water gets in it. Put it back together and you are good to go! (y)

Thanks for the info on removing the mirror lights. I have broken many of tabs in the past and was worried.
Now on to my problem at hand. I just bought some Red lights at the local Checkers store and they looked Ugly. The lights for the mirror or puddle lights bulbs were to big. Spent only about $2 for a pair no big loss.

Any one know of where I could find purple lights.
I need the 194's and the small Dome lights. Or any other bulbs that would be needed to complete the interior. I bought some headlights from the local speed shop that gives off a purple tint. Some Japanese brand. Probably will do the cluster, glove box and all. Kinde of purple lighting theme.

Are you talking about the puddle lights here?

There is a much easier way to do this. All You have to do is remove the puddle light from the bottom of the mirror.

There is a tab you push towards the back of the truck and pop the entire puddle light assembly out. takes less than 5 min.

as for the bulb size it is 211-2.

Brothel comes to mind. ;D >:D ;D

How do you get to the bulbs in the front map lights?

How do you get to the lights in the dome light?? Easy enough, I just went out to figure it out myself. on the driver's side of the dome light, there is a small notch. Pry then lens cover off. Simple!

How do you get to the lights in the door reflector area?

I found red lamps and bought a bunch, now I just have to swap them all out...

The good thing about red is that it does not constrict your pupils, ask any Navy man before night vision.Red is Cool

211-2 DO NOT FIT :8:
The metal contact area was smaller in diameter than stock 578 and the glass on a 211-2 is longer thus causing the bulb to fit on one end but the glass portion being caught in the connector on the other.

Anyone know the difference between the stock 168 (side doors and map lights) and 194?

Sjudson, after spending 7.5 years working on USAF aircraft, I agree - red is where it's at!

Jamie

The 211-2 will fit into the dome light if you snap it into place exactly in the middle of the fixture. I swapped out my lights last week. The only problem that I have is that the lights I got are considerably dimmer than the stock bulbs. I think they are all 5w bulbs. I'm on the lookout for brighter ones, I'll let you know if I can find some.

Jamie - besides the apparent dimmer bulbs, there are no differences between the bulbs.

i started at the red end of reflector and slowly pried it out....do it slow and you wont have any breaks...then they just let loose....real simple....good luck...p.s. i just added 6-9 inch neon bulbs wired into dimmer switch...way cool...when you hit the remote....a sea of red appears....you can also do the puddle lamps red too...

OK, here's an update. The 4 doors and 2 map lights are 194 red. The 2 puddle lights and 3 rear dome lights are 211-2 red. So how did I get the 211-2's to work? I simply ever-so-slightly bent them further apart. The bulb then fit fine and works fine as well. Same with the puddle lights - just used long-nose pliers to outwardly bend the clips.

So now I'm thinking I am fully ensconced in red light, right? WRONG. There are 2 more lights... just above driver and passenger feet. So 2 more 194 red and we'll be fine!

Jamie

Ooooh didnt see the one above the feet. ?:0:Going to have to take a look. I also bent the clips just a little on each side to make the bulb fit. Only I bent mine after a night of drinking and was worried the next morning on what I did....
But no damage and they fit great.
