I had this done because I can, not because I'm going to watch movies while I'm driving. It is another toy for my toy. It gives me access to the internet on the go, more navigation options, full time weather and a screen I don't have any trouble reading and a lot of options voice controlled through Siri.

It took about a week and a half for the panel insert to be custom made and installed. Thanksgiving contributed to the time. It is replacing the panel insert which housed the two storage compartments and lighter receptacles below the hvac control (first gen Av).  One lighter receptacle was relocated inside the armrest/flip top storage compartment on the center console.  I only relocated one, as I only use it to charge my phone when necessary with a usb adaptor; everything else is hardwired.  If needed I could always buy a splitter or install another.

The ipad mini will charge when in the panel and is connected to my head unit through the video source.  All audio goes through my sound system, all video remains on the ipad.  I like it, it brings my interior up to date with technology.  Volume controls are enabled through the steering wheel controls, but I can't change songs playing from the ipad with the steering wheel controls - have to tap the screen.  A module that will do dual duty enabling full steering wheel controls for both the radio and ipad is due out in January.  Currently, my steering wheel controls are fully compatible with the head unit.

I'm happy with it.  I just got it back so sorry for the night pics.  Will take some more tomorrow. The first pic is the open panel area waiting for its panel back.  The second shows the lighter socket relocation.  Third shows the dash area with ipad installed.  Fourth and Fifth are close-ups of the ipad installed.  Sixth is of the custom insert with the ipad removed.

  if I did that, I'd have to relocate my stick shift...

Looks like a nice mod   (y)

LOL
You can't have it both ways.
Although all things considered I'd rather have the stick shift

Yes 4g. But have to link it to my phone and link phone to radio so both ipad and phone calls come through radio. Otherwise if I just link ipad to radio, phone won't connect. Apparently Bluetooth module connected to head unit will only connect one device. It's 6 yrs old. I'll address that issue when I have the new steering control module installed.  Not a big deal right now. I use the ipad outside the vehicle too which is why I got the one with a 4g radio.

No tools required.  (y) There is a finger indent on the right side, pull up slightly and then slide iPad to the right to disconnect from power connector and it's free. It's in there very snug so it's definitely not falling out while driving.

Hmm...that's what I was thinking.  Makes it easier for me to steal it.  Thanks

          :kidding:

Nice mod.  (y)

Haha.  Thanks.  That's why I didn't have want it permanently installed, so I can take it with me so you can't steal it  :beating:  (y)
And Apple "i" products tend to be more temperature sensitive than others.  (n)

Air horns are next......

For me it's mounted a little low and would diffcult to see and use while sitting in the seat.  Nonetheless nice job and cool setup.

this is pretty cool I like how that's mounted I was thinking about getting one and if I did howcould I mount it in there but more importantly what would I use it for?
