Is my CD / Radio Normal?

I have an '02 Av with the stock regular CD / AM / FM system. This has always bugged me but I kept pushing it off as normal. Now I'm getting fed up with it.

Basically, my CD player takes about 30 - 45 seconds to start playing the music. I can hear it trying to read the CD but it takes a while for it to kick in. This happens mainly after the CD has been inserted and the Av has been shut off and restarted. Then about 1/3rd of the time, I get "ERR" and the the CD kicks out. Does not matter if it is warm or cold out.

Also, There is a small bulb like looking thing next to the "VOL" button. Is this supposed to be lit? Mine never did.

And one more thing, Is there supposed to be a volume indication on the display? Mine never had it if there is supposed to be one. I always found it strange it didn't have a visual volume display.

Thanks.

The red indicator light is only lit when the truck is off, and you have enabled the theft deterent system. (see owner manual)

There is no visual volume level, if you've noticed you can spin the vol. control endlessly in either direction as well. I certainly don't mind it not having that...it would be useless anyway I think.

As for your CD, is it a 'burned' CD or a store bought? If it's burned your software may not be properly set up, or your finalization process isn't set correctly on your burn software. If it's a store bought disk, I've got no clue...unless it's really scratched or dirty.

After you determined that your CD's are ok.. . . .

Did you run a cleaning disk in it? get a spray duster can for electronics - maybe it's accumulated some dust. (Be easy with an air-hose - low pressure, dried air only.) Blowing dust out could also deposit more on the lens, so, do a "before and after" cleaning disk maintenance. It could just be at an error tolerance level that is more prominant under the conditions you described, where some simple cleaning can correct it (Just an inexpensive thing to try.).

..Then, (not to fret) pursue the service hassle. It isn't uncommon for seek errors and motor/driver chip faults and that's not a simple plug-n-play fix. Most service depots just change out the transport.

the things mentioned above sound like a good start. that's what i would have done myself had i been experiencing the same problem.

Ive noticed on cold days it takes awhile to get a store bought CD to even work once the rtuck warms up it will play them but not until it just keeps kicking them out and giving me the ERR code :(

Thanks guys.

The CD playing issue happens on both burned and store bought CDs. I'm ready to take it back in before I hit 36K.

I had my 03 about 1 month and that started happening, I took it back and they replaced it no prob, just make sure that you remove any CD's in the player..

I left a CD in so they could test it and they just pulled the whole unit and sent it back..

they replaced the CD for me also....
