Is this the OnStar to Bluetooth conversion that we've been looking for?

My gripe is this  :E:

On my '08 I use and like Onstar. Has saved my bacon several times. I buy minutes from Onstar and use it as a backup.

Why is it that someone can't produce a bluetooth module that plugs in ahead of the Onstar module? This way your Onstar button would still work, yet bluetooth would be enabled for my iPhone. If the phone is off or dead, the Onstar/Verizon backup would take over.

Just my $.02

The Lockpic unit seems to be much better then the Galaxy.  It says no loss of On* function, just integrates your blueooth

Thanks GN.
I'll check it out  (y)

I'm glad to see there's another unit like this on the market.  Still, the Costar unit sounds like it does the same as your unit at the same price.  Maybe that's something you want to think about.

Also, have you checked with the moderators about advertising products on here?? I'm not sure what the rules are, but I would hope you checked in first.

But the Lockpic only appears to switch the sound system to the incoming cellphone call.  No use of builtin rear view mirror buttons or builtin Onstar mic.  Then you need to buy the bluetooth unit seperately and attach to the Lockpic.  So in the end bluestar is able to use all for about the same overall price ($275).  You just dont get to use both Onstar AND Bluestar which is the only advantage of the Lockpic that I can see.

Why can't BlueStar lower its price.. say down to at least $200.. thats still more than most cellphones :E:

I have an '03 as well, that's why I was looking into this.  I think in this thread there is confusion between the CoStar Bluestar unit and the Lockpick unit at coastaltech.com.  Two different things.

As far as I can tell, the Costar has several models to work with both the older style like the '03 and the newer style.

There is nothing else to buy.  The unit is complete and ready to PnP.

For those asking about the install of the BlueStar on 07+

The only downfall with bluestar so far is the bluetooth syncing.  Since onstar and this system stay on in your car for up to an hour after your car shuts off and the keys are pulled (doors opened) you can't continue a conversation with a person unless you unsync your phone before opening the doors on the car.  Also, if you are talking to someone while walking to your car and you unlcock the doors from your keyfob, the system syncs your phone to the car and you have to be in the car and have the car on in order to talk to the person. Pain in the but.  It's embarrassing!

Any modules dealing with the iPhone/ iPod streaming with functions available on the touchscreen nav?

Also, do you make use of the enhanced transceiver and external antenna from the On* equipment or just use the cellular antenna and transceiver?  (I assume not using On* as you disconnect, but I am always making an ass of myself.)

Any idea when it will be available for the 2008 with Onstar function intact

Thanks, one other question, will actually two..lol...your website shows the current one isn't available for 2008, but if it does work for 2008 vehicle, will there be a programming upgrade available if or when you get the Onstar function working.

Will the new version display anything in the DIC like "BT connected" or "Phone in use", maybe "call in progress" maybe caller id info etc..., I know, asking a lot, but just wondering if you have it planned for future upgrades.  I like the idea of not having to pull my radio out to plug it up.  I feel a bit more adventurous with the glovebox.......no trim work to break.  Otherwise I would be all over the PacAudio BLU-GM29 and the Moto HF1000 a long time ago.  Popping that trim off and pulling the radio just scares me to death.

I have a 2007 LTZ with a Bose Nav system, and want to keep my On*...I would be extremely interested in this!  Having the information in the DIC would be excellent as well!  Please keep us posted...I was looking to do the Motorola/PAC combo, but for a simple plug and play I can wait...just not TOO long!  >:D

Hi guys, I know there's been some interest on this thread for the CoStar BlueStar 2010 and I wanted to a heads up that I'm putting together a BlueStar group buy in case anyone is interested.

The price for the group buy is officially $225, and if you want to be a part of it I need you to email me on my regular email. It's too time consuming logging into the different thread email accounts, and they're not user friendly for organizing something like this. I promise I won't use your email for anything other than this group buy, frankly I'm too busy to do anything like that!

Email me - jonesbr@hotmail.com

Let me know if you are in so we can get it started. Our TIMELINE TO ORDER IS LIMITED once it starts so I want to make sure we are organized and people get their orders in on time.

Looking forward to hearing from you, I promise I won't interrupt the discussion anymore, good luck with the fight for bluetooth guys! - Brandon

No thanks - would like to keep my On*...

Still waiting for the Galaxy 1000 to work with it...

X2, and Fred with Galaxy is offering free firmware updates as well...these other companies don't mention any upgrades, or even plans for upgrades.

CoStar offers free updates, and you don't have to send the unit in to do them either.  There's a USB port built in so you can update them easily without removing them from your vehicle.  If you look on their website you will see them listed for the 2010 model.  That's how the Caller ID and AD2P will be implemented in the next couple of months.

Yup, I will be waiting for a bluetooth / Onstar compatible module too. I hope it doesn't take too long.

This would be an ideal tool...if it didn't kill On* (for those of us still using it).

Any news on the update to the Galaxy 1000?
Sure hope the decision is made to keep the On* functionality  :B:
I'm ready to buy it right now  (y)
