Is throwing MOD money at an older AV a bad idea?

I bought my 2002 AV in 2006 with 4200 km on the clock. Now it's something around 213000 km and I still have more fun in my Avalanche than any other car before!

I tested some newer cars and trucks but I still see no reason to buy a new one.
I did so many mods to my make her "MY" Avalanche and I don't want to start that process again.

So I'll keep her as long as possible

Could have not said it better myself, my 03 working girl is still being modded.

I had a 2002 Avy since 2008, I bought it with 78,000 miles on it, put 45,000 mile on it.  I just paid it off 2 months ago, two months early on the loan, then at the term the loan would of gone if I hadnt paid it off early, the transmission started slipping.  I drove it about another 200 miles, then it almost barely moved once it got hot.

I was just at the point where I was putting money into it, bought a snugtop, was shopping for nerf bars and a bull gaurd (but thankfully didnt find them yet).  I put all new rotors and ceramic pads on it.

From the top the truck looked excellent, even inside I kept it real nice, about 9.5 out 10 I feel.  It was a base model Z71

I could of bought a transmission and installed it myself, but the truck was so rusty it was hard to believe.  The brake bleeder nipples would break off in the rubber cap, it was that bad.  And the frame and driveshaft looked like red rock.

But I did buy another Avalanche though, I love these trucks, and I put my snugtop on it, 2011 model with 40,000 miles.  Its a LT this time and super nice.  Im hoping keeping it in my garage since I have one now will help keep the rust at bay, my last one was only garage kept for one year of its life that I owned it.

I would say mod it while its newer or when you get it, then chill as it gets older as any day you could lose your money on it.

My truck went from running excellent, to shot transmission in 2 days.  I just painted the snugtop red to match, then a month later I painted it silver to match my new one.  I use my Avy as my work truck, I do handyman work for myself, so I could not be without one for long.

Im thinking my new Avy is too nice as a work truck though.  I havent really had to get it dirty yet.

Glad you bought a new(er) one. I keep hearing about rust on vehicles. Hard to fathom, living in Southern California where we get about ten days of "rain" and no snow.

I had do to some soul searching before I put the supercharger on my 5 year old truck.  Not only is it expensive, and highly depreciative, but it is the mod that can break stuff.  Power mods can be the gift that keeps on giving (for your mechanic).

In the end, I looked at new trucks a lot, then looked at mine.  No payments and I feel a truck can be mostly trouble free for 12 years, and should last 20 with some love.  If you are still south of 400k and 20 years, give 'er.

Also, I love my truck.  My hope is that by 2020 GM has something to replace this with.... and I like luxury, so maybe a Caddy next time???
