Well after owning my '02 Z71 for 5 months I finally had a problem. I tried to look through the posts to see if this has been covered but do not see anything. This afternoon while pulling into my parking garage at work the battery light came on along with the air bag light. Shortly after all of the lights went off and the truck died. I tried to restart it, all it would do is turn over and die. I could hold the gas down and it would run but kept dying if I took my foot out of it. The lights would come on when it tried to start but then after about 5 tries no lights nothing. I tried it again then the lights for the push button 4X4 came on but no dash lights. I opened the hood checked the battery but everything was fine (green light). We pushed the truck into a spot and let it sit for about 2 min and it started right up but the radio presets had been blanked as if the battery failed. I left work, took it to the dealer who currently has it and now I have no problem :8:. It drove perfect all the way and even when they put it in the shop. The diag showed and air bag alarm and 2 others that I cannot remember. I have a friend who is the mechanic so he wanted to look it over better tomorrow to be sure its isolated and also take care of other warrenty issues I have. Has anyone else had this experience? Someone said vapor lock but as I understand it thats almost impossable with fuel injected vehicles??? Hopefully they get me my Avy back tomorrow I can't handle another day this rental Cavalier!!

Unfortunately I have not experienced nor read any post that share this similar problem. Sorry to hear about your recent problem I hope you get it figured out.

Some one else had this problem about a year ago. He was driving down the freeway and it just died. After several attempts he called onstar for a tow truck, while waiting for the tow truck he tried it again and the truck started like there was no problem. I will try to find the post if can.

UPDATE LINK BELOW

8.1 Engine died while driving down the interstate.

Sounds like what a dissabling system on an alarm does. Do you have onstar? It might be a computer problem. I had a Dodge that did that once. It was because I had a key made that was not a "Dodge" key and the truck thought it was being stolen

I remember the post Mr. Bill is refering to. If I recall correctly, it had something to do with OnStar. The solution then was to let the vehicle for a period of time without touching anything, and what ever made the vehicle do that would reset. (not a real technical explaination I know, but that is just from memory)

Also symptomatic of a bad battery connection. Pull the positive cable, check for corrosion, etc. One historical issue with GM and Delco batteries is leaking at the positive post, especially if the cable is overtightened. The leakage builds corrosion and causes interrupted flow and can in fact do what you experienced.

I was one of the people that had their Av die on the highway. Same sort of symptoms. Got it to start after 1/2 hour, got home no more problems, 3 hours later. Next morning dead, no start. I think my problem was a connection under the dash but the dealer would not admit to it. 30K miles later no more problems. I bet it was a bad connection in the security system, that shut off the gas flow for me. I hope it gets fixed.

I got my baby back, baby back, baby back.......yackidy yackidy yack yack!! They found a loose wire to a BCM under the dash. Some how it wiggled free and caused the whole truck to shut down (couldn't have anything to do with me digging out the entire dash for my stereo system...naaaa). So Ditch Ill see you Sunday. BTW driving that POS Cav for the last 24hrs really made me appericiate what I have, not that I didn't before but know I remember what it was like to not have the AV!

Congrats.

I'm hoping the mods I was doing (Indiglo,Switchable DRL's) will go unnoticed by the dealer.

And I know what you mean, I look for to driving her everyday. It is the only vehicle I have ever owned, and felt that way about.

My 02 avaqlanche did the same thing while I was on the chey lot after every thing had closed up. I went home and came back in about 30min to unload the truck and tried to start truck aand it starte. Went back to Chevy garage the next morning and it did the same thing. Had 5 different alarms come in on it. Turned out to be the crank shaft sensor had gone out. This was replaced and has been doing fine since. This sensor shut down four other sensors 1- fuel injection, 2- firing system and I am not sure what the other two were. Hope this helps out. I hwas also told that if you have a shut down like this wait 30-45 minutes and the vichicle will proably start. Every time you try to start you must wait this 30-45 minutes. good luck Hope this points someone in right direction.jndwelly
