Jacobs Ignition

I am planning to get a 2003 Av in Jan and what to know if anyone has seen tests with the Jacobs ignition on the 5.3? I drive 100miles a day to work so milage is important, if it gives me 2 MPG as advertised thats a penny a mile savings. If its $300 then it pays for itself in 30,000 miles or less than a year for me. Any other reasonable milage ideas?

holocbr,

I put Jacobs Pro Street (IIRC) on my wife's 98 S Blazer. We DID NOT SEE any difference in mileage or prformance. It is sitting in a box in my garage collecting dust. Install was real PITA due to lack of room around the 4.3 in the truck, probably not a concern with the 5.3 in the AV.

Dont think you'll see much benefit from the Jacobs ignition..., the stock system on these Ls1 engines is pretty good..., which is why there's not much out there yet for them.., even with My Blower, and running 9 pounds of Boost..., the stock system on mine hasn't missed a beat.., all ive done is added a set of Magnacore wires..., and that was only because of the Headers.., they have a thicker jacket, and resist heat better than the stock wires... Im waiting to see what MSD comes out with.., ive heard there working on a system for the 8 coil set up.. Ive always liked there systems.., and have run them on all My Race Cars, and Boats.... JMO Haven't been posting much lately, been working on some very serious new Mods ;)

I put a Jacobs Ultra Team on my 91 S-10 Blazer with 4.3L engine. My milage went up 4 mpg, to 23.5 after I regaped my plugs to the new setting recommed by Jacobs. The best part is that I bought the system for my Dodge Conquest and it also worked on my S-10.

So far I have yet to find any parts that Jacobs makes that will fit on the GEN III engine. Of course, it's been about 9 months since I looked on the Jacobs web site. Maybe GM did enough work that Jacobs couldn't pull more power out of the engine. Maybe Jacobs hasn't got around to reseaching this engine. Whatever! I was so impressed with my 1st Ultra Team that I'll buy what ever Jacobs offers for the GEN III when it's available.

I've had nothing but bad luck with :D:Jacobs products. On my 91 GMC the ignition shut down then would work, sent it back and had it repaired quit on me two more times. Had a timing controler under the dash to advance or retard timing for performance or low octane fuel, it caught on fire one day driving down th road :8:. Saw no gain in performance or mileage and cost 2X as much. Used MSD boxes for years on a dozen cars and boats with never a glitch....
my story....R
