JEFF D SUB BOX SECRETS REVEALED

Lookin' good!   (y)

Thank you and thanks for posting your dimensions. They were very helpful in figuring out the cuts for the boxes.

The passenger side test fit was a little tight, but I that is because the bolts that are in the seat are about 3/8" too long and stick out. I'm going to buy some shorter bolts and then the box will fit comfortably.

For those interested, I was able to build both boxes with approximately 1/2 a sheet of 1/2" mdf. With proper planning, you could just buy a half sheet to use for this project.

Last coat of paint. Just have to wait for it to dry and I can install and start enjoying them.

How much cubic feet volume did you sqeeze out of that design?  And you are running 8's right?

I can't wait to see how you like them... I had 8's before in another vehicle and they were awesome!!!!!

Let use know,

  Ed

If you stuff them (with the correct material) it will increase the volume.  (y)

I think the boxes are about 0.5 ft^3 of volume, each. I didn't put any poly stuffing in them but I think I might change that. I think a little more volume would help quite a bit. For now, I think they sound good. They aren't like the ported 12" mtx 8500 pair I used to have in my car, but I'm happy with how the kicker CVR's sound for 8's. I still need to play with amp settings, like gain, crossover, boost, etc. I'm happy with them. They are plenty loud inside the truck. Outside the truck with the windows up and doors closed, you can't hear the subs. Fine by me. I'm not planning on entering any more db drags. One first place trophy is enough for me already.  :D

I'll try to post some pictures in the next few days of how they turned out.

One thing I'm disappointed with: the amp I'm using in between the boxes is tall enough that it prohibits the seats from folding flat like I think they should. I'm now looking for a different amp or a better way to mount the amp I currently have... Maybe I should have removed the padding under the carpet in the middle of the seat afterall.

Just decided to do my stereo instead of my engine mods and found this while browsing.  Wanted to say thanks for the info.  I'll probably start these this weekend.

Anyone done this lately? My are still kicking butt.  (y)

So well this work in an 07 lt? I talked to my jobs stereo guy and he can make the boxes for me as I do not have the patience  :beating: I get everything at great pricing since I work here (one benefit)

Each year needed a few tweaks to make them fit. Take some measurements and just make the adjustments.

Hi there
i have been looking for something like this for a while.  I have a 2006 1500model. will this work in mine as well.
thanks for the help.

First i'd like to thank Stephan D for creating this and putting up his design. Also like to thank Pezzdog for putting up the his box design. I have a 2002 the back seats are a little different which allowed me to build a bigger box. The driver side is complete, and the passenger is a work in progress. building that puppy tomorrow. I will post a pic of the completed drivers box, email me for dimensions if you'd like. But over all it sounds awesome, with just one rocks the car. I have a infinity reference 8 inch sub with 250 rms, 1000 peak, which is linked up to a two channel amp a little under 500 rms liked to what will be 4 gauge wire all around. I can't wait to get the second one in tomorrow, I will update when both are in and working.  :D

I don't think there is enough volume, and what could you stuff inside to give it more volume? I am curious.

I went to the Joann fabrics store and got poly fill to stuff inside mine and give it more volume. post some pics of that box installed when you get a chance.

Beat me to it. Yes poly fill delays the sound waves giving the speaker added volume but you have to use the right amount.

Got the other box completed.. a pain in a arse but its done.. almost carpet comes on both these guys tomorrow.. but till then rocking them without carpet. and i think i will put some of that fill in. not to much though. but how much is to much? note that the sub closest to you is the passenger and the farther away one is of course the driver. let me know your thoughts on them!! lol post another pic tomorrow completely finished and cleaned up around the edges. I'm gonna post a youtube video of them so i can show them off better. I do take pride in my work. lol

A good rule of thumb for Poly Fill (quilt stuffing) is 1 pound per cubic foot.
If your boxes are a half cubic foot use 0.5 pound of Poly Fill, if they are 0.8 cu ft. use 0.8 pounds. etc...

Tomorrow I two 10" Kenwood excelon subs going in with a 500.1 w kenwood excelon amp. Were going to build a ported box to move more air, either we going to try and go slot port but if there isn't enough room aero port which is going to be built to fit under the seat of my 08 av. I would like to thank this forum for the great idea. I will post pics as soon as it is done tomorrow.

I was going to use Diamond d3's but decided to go Kenwood being that my entire system is Kenwood excelon.

Welcome Bkennedy  :welcome:

You will need at least 10 posts before you can upload pics.  For now, you can host them on another site and use the picture link tool to display them.

Thanks guys I ended up actually getting a Bbox which holds my 2 10" subs right under the seat nicely they sound great on the inside and they don't advertise break into me outside!.

does anybody know what the cuft of these boxes are? I thought I read .70, but now i can't find it. thanks!

Any design you can come up with for these trucks is commendable because they just don't have a ton of cabin space to work with...  I went with a one off console design myself because the air space problem, and I didn't want to screw with my midgate...

Nice Work,
  Ed

Hey, nice looking boxes.  i'm looking into doing something like this too, so with these boxes do you still have full use of your midgate?  That's really my biggest concern, and your boxes look a little bigger than the ones that started this tread.  Any input you can give my I defenitely appriciate.  I found some alpine 6.5's 70% at best buy, i've got them in, HOPING Santa is good to me, then i'll be working on some boxes!  thanks!

Yeah the mid gate works. But with the midgate down I lose the bass from the subs, I guess they get smothered or something along those lines. The mid gate does go down, when i go to my truck I'll take a picture of them down and post it for you to see.
