I just bought a 2008 Z71 Avalanche but it does not have the nav system or backup cam. I would like to get a backup cam installed, preferably the rearview mirror type, I really don't want the nav system. I have the rearview mirror with temp. compass and onstar and auto dimming. I know I will need to change the mirror out but what else will be needed to do this I would like to have it with factory parts such as the camera in the tailgate bezel if anyone would have the factory part numbers that would be great.

Thank You:

Are you sure you want factory ???

It's not that easy.

kind of finding that out and it also is kind of pricey too. any suggestions?? if changing the radio head unit would definitely want to keep all the functions, Steering wheel controls, Bluetooth etc.etc.

Thank you;

Installed a backup cam.  So tired of getting in and out to see if the trailer is lined up.  Went with wireless because I was too lazy to run a hardwire cable into the cab.
Interestingly, there is a reverse lamp hot wire in the mirror assembly.  Made it easy for keeping the cables clean and not have to access the headliner.

I wouldn't mind getting a nav screen but not sure if the aftermarket ones will allow me to keep all my functions such as steering wheel controls and the back seat audio system a must have when transporting 2 preteen girls around they plug in and listen to what they want and  I get to listen to my classic rock while driving. I have the Bose sound system now was wondering if the factory nav system is compatible I have found a couple of the units for sale for a reasonble price but just not sure if it is interchangeable. it sounds like the unit would need to be programmed to the vehicle to function. any thoughts or Ideas would be appreciated
