Hey everyone! The folks at UPD have decided to give CAFCNA a Holidays present. A group buy on their UPD's. This is a similar program to the one done back in July of this year. UPD kits start as low as $179 with the K&N filter, $159 without! The prices being given to us are even lower than the last purchase so this is a tremendous deal. Further two new finishes have been added. Crinkle chrome and a smooth satin finish chrome. Club members are getting a hair more than a 25% discount off of the regular price (sweet!).

Do these really help with improved mileage? I have a 1500 Z-71

In theory mileage could increase. In reality when you do performance mods you end up with less mileage since you tend to get on it more often. Don't let that stop you though, the growl you hear from the UPD is worth the sacrifice.

We got about 1MPG better mileage out of the UPD on the 2500 8.1L, but like the previous poster mentioned, you'll end up with less mileage when having fun.

How much louder is it?

And with the "clear" option, which pieces are clear? The whole thing, or just a plexiglass cover over the filter?

Thanks,
Chris

Will I really notice any difference between this and just adding a K&N to the stock setup?

I have the plain black UPD, and got a noticeable improvement in power & mpg combining it with my upgraded exhaust and TBS.
Unless your big on looks, I would just go with the cheaper black UPD.

I add the TBS with the UPD and noticed a significant power improvement.
I just couldn't stand the little whistle the TBS makes, so I ended up taking it out.
If you're looking for more power, it's about the best mod for the buck. It just sounds like a faint supercharger-like whine.

Has anyone added a TBS (Throttle Body Spacer) with the group buy UPD?

If so, was it worth it?

My understanding is you have to cut a small notch in the fan shroud to make it all fit -- comments anyone...

I'm in the same boat as jryther, I've received confirmation of the order. But nothing as to if it shipped. Has anyone received their's yet? I hope I get it in time for Christmas!

Chief,

I finally did it! I made my first performance mod purchase. The UPD intake and K&N filter group purchase. Looks like a really great deal.

Should be getting it before Christmas.

Yeah - sure I made other minor mods but never performance related.

Have been keeping milage records since I got my AV. Will do the same after the mod using the same driving habits in order to see what the UPD intake really does.

Cheers!

Question......

Is the UPD a "cold/fresh air" intake unit?

I have installed fresh air intake systems on the last (3) new cars that I have had and have had a "definate" seat-of-the-pants, noticable difference. (No dyno claims)

I just can't tell by looking at the pictures if this unit is "fresh/outside" air induced or not.

What is the "claim" on the Hp/Torque gains?

"D-man" (New toy tomorrow?? hhhmmmm)

Customer service?!!?? ?Maybe they should fix the phone system first! ?The phone answering system hang up on me about 6 times. ?Gee wiz, break down and by a $30 answering machine from the local hardware store. ?That?d be better than the $1000 system they have now.

But anyway, I do like the looks of the intake, I got the clear version. I just hope this thing works better than the phone system UPD has!!
?

I already have a K&N drop in, will this work with the UPD or do I need to order another filter? The only thing is will I need a new gasket with the UPN? The one that came with the drop in is stuck to my stock box.

Wiki, that looks great. A couple of questions?
1) Did you unhook the battery to install this to allow the computer to reset? If so, for how long?
2) How did the mass air flow sensor hook up? Any problems with that?

Hey MI_99XPL,

Great!

I ordered mine a few days ago but wanted give my CC info over the phone instead of the internet. They haven't called me yet. Does anyone have an alternate telephone #. Called 281-545-2811 and only got a lame automated answering service.

I feel like a fool. :2: I few days ago a actually got a person to pick up the phone, I confirmed the CAFCNA deal, but said I'd think about it for one day. Next day I tried calling again - no dice, :8: I had to use the internet.

Oh well. I guess I'll keep trying.

THEOFILOS2002

PS: Let me know how it works out - throttle response and mpg - if you please.

Thanks!

I received my UPD when promised. I ordered the model with the K&N filter included. Much to my suprise, there was no filter in the box. I have called several times and have yet to speak to a person. Left several recorded messages. ? :cautious:

UPD is sending the filter and applogized. I have already installed the unit without the K&N, was easy to install 15 min. max. :)

All,

FINALLY - FINALLY - FINALLY!!!

I got a person on the other end of 281-545-2811, the UPD Corp office automated phone answering system. ?I gave the lady my cerdit card info, finished to order process and commented on the system. ?I told her that CAFCNA members participating in the group purchase have been frustrated in getting through to a anyone there. ?I must have call 7 time trying to get through - it pays to have 600 nation-wide cell minutes, otherwise it would cost $$$$.

jscotb,

Take heart and try again next week. ?Maybe my criticism helped out - she actuall took it well when I told her UPD may be missing out on sales.

Will be getting my package probably the weekend following Christmas. ?Can't wait to test this puppy to see how well it does - power and mpg.

>:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D

Cheers!

ordered my UPD on 12/14, still not here! only received one initial email confirming, nothing after that with tracking info etc. has it been taking this long? i guess the delivery industry is just bogged down with xmas!
