Just rescued a f*rd from the depths...pics inside

I just about choked when I saw the first pics.  Hilarious!

Hey, I have a real story for you.  This is a couple of vehicles ago when I was still driving my well loved '03 Envoy.  My husband already had his '08 Silverado and had over 100,000 kms on his tires.  He called them moccasins.

We had just moved into our new house on a small acreage and we had done some landscaping but not all.  The ground here is clay and very muddy (almost quicksand) when wet.

We had guests who towed their 5th wheel into our unlandscaped back yard, and then it rained all weekend.  The back yard was like a bowl of mucky soup.  Well he took his Dodge Ram and tried to tow the 5th wheel out after the long weekend and just kept digging himself deeper and deeper in the mud.  Man, what a mess.

So, my husband grabbed his Silverado and attached it to the back end of the 5th wheel (with the Dodge still on the front) and started towing it out, successfully.  However, his bad tires started slipping badly and he couldn't finish.  So he grabbed my Envoy (inline 6 cyl but with brand new tires) and pulled the whole rig (5th wheel and 2500 Dodge Ram) out of the back yard, up the hill and onto the road.  It was hilarious and a site to see ... my little Envoy towing a whole setup 3 times as long.  I wish I'd taken pictures but I can still see it clearly in my mind.  We had about 20 guests at the time.

Too funny!

And now I drive the Avalanche which makes the Envoy seem like a toy!

like Flint said, the 50/50 weight balance gives the av a huge advantage

Yes, I agree totally.  I've driven the Silverado, a couple of rental Ford F150's (not too bad ... I actually liked), a rental Dodge Dakota (the thing handled like sh#t, was all over the road), my well loved Envoy, the '07 Avy, and now my even more well loved '13 Avy.

Both Avy's are awesome in comparison to all the other vehicles.

Living in a northern, icy, snowy climate and driving 55 kms (34 miles) on the highway at approximately 120 kmph (75 mph) every day to work and back has given me huge respect for my truck.  The weight (as you say 50/50) keeps it on the road and when everyone else (including pickups) are sliding off the road, I just cruise by ... no worries.  What an awesome truck!  I'm so sorry they don't make anymore.  Well, there's always the boring Suburban

I think that the one thing that helps when pulling people out is the shear weight of the avalanche. My 2002 Z-71 with just a driver weighs over 6000 lb. I bet that is at least 500 lbs more than a silverado, maybe more. Anyone know what a silverado weighs?

2014 Silverado 1500 5.3 Litre - 5042 lbs curb weight, 2007 lbs payload, GVW 7200 lbs (I got this from gm website)

2013 Avalanche 1500 5.3 Litre - 5803 lbs curb weight, 1,397 lbs payload, GVW 7200 lbs

(I got avalanche info from motor trend, as interestingly, if you go on GM site for Avalanche they point you at the Silverado ... have a look http://www.gm.ca/gm/english/vehicles/chevrolet/avalanche/no-longer-available)
