Went out today for my first try at side/side kayaks with my new Thule setup. Here are the photos of how it all fit (very well). These are 16' and 17' sea Kayaks, lashed at the load bars and bow/stern. Windy day, even in protected waters. Also included a photo of my spouse afloat. Anyway, side by side can be done.

Beam on both was 22". There is just a little room left btwn them and a tiny bit more on the outside for small adjustments.

What type of bow/stern lashing are you using? Does it leave marks, on the trim? Nice set-up, by the way.

I have an inflatable kayak and inflatable bass boat, have rented or borrowed canoes/tubes on the Au Sable River for over 30 years. I've looked at kayaks and considered your exact setup but never put a roofrack on the '02. My waag front and rear guards would eliminate most rubbing issues. I'll have to get different color kayaks so we don't look like twins. Nice looking setup. (y) (y)

looks to me like you could darn near use those as outriggers...

:0: "with a few modifications, a couple of brackets and a bit of rope and bailing wire... I think we can get this one lashed down right here.." ;D

I'd put kayak outriggers on someone's AV going swimming from four wheelin' section but I am relearning new photo editing progs on my new laptop still. :D

Two kayaks. That's easy. Try three kayaks, one 18 ft 3 inches, one 14 feet 2 inches, and one 9 feet 6 inches.

That's SOMething, good job but we expect that from AV owners.
