Kick Panel Subs

I ran across a kick panel enclosure made by Q-Logic. It says that a 6 1/2" woofer can fit. I was wondering if anybody has tried this?

Would a 6 1/2" be enough, or too much upfront? Or could you go with one on each side? Is it worth looking in to?

Generally these kick panels are ment to hold the mid-driver. They give better imaging. They don't have enough volume behind them for a true sub. 6.5 inch subs would have poor bass extension, probabely no more that 40-50 Hz.

A long time ago.....in a galaxy far......nevermind

A while back, that sub box was discussed here:

I think I found the Perfect Sub

The pics are deleted, but that is how that thread started. Great reading material for those interested in SUBS!!

This may be going off the thread subject, but do "bass blockers" lessen the amount of bass that comes out of your door speakers, or what? And then you follow that move with a sub to bring the bass back that you are blocking from coming out of your door speakers?

Back to the thread...so if a 6 1/2 doesn't have enough bass, is the kick panel limited in the size of sub you can put down there?

Bass Blocker ???

Most Q-forms will only hold a 6.5" driver. This too small to have much bass extension. Low frequency is limited by the size of the driver and the distance that the cone can move (generally x-max in the speaker specs.)

In order to get good bass you would need to build a box to enclose the speaker in the kick panel. This can be done, but there is little room behind the front wheels of the Avalanche. Usually extend the box into the space behind the existing kick panel.

Then there is the problem of the emergency brake--usually needs to be modified to allow clearance from the Q-forms. They are easier to work with in a car with a hand brake.

Looks like I'm gonna try to find something to fit in the back again.

Yes.

Forget trying to use kick panels for subs.

Most everything that is being disscussed here has been covered in I think I found the perfect sub I would love to see some new ideas for bass, but if you take some time to read that thread and the other one it points to at the end, you will see these subjects have been exhausted. Feel free to post new ideas about bass, but lets do a search for existing topics. If you need help using the search function, contact me or Fish and we will gladly help youl.
