I finally did it. I got my laptop mounted in my AV! I mounted the stand on the passengers side floor, and it hovers over the center console and passengers seat. Also in this job, I mounted 2 gold plated RCA jacks under the On-Star location for an audio feed into my Head Unit. This will allow me to play my DVD's and such in the AV! For power, I purchased a 400watt power inverter and mounted it in the cubby hole where a tape deck is suppose to go ( right above the CD holder)!! The only thing left to do now is to do the GPS mod to the onstar box and I am DONE.

For pics, click on my sig on AV pictures. The quality is bad on the pictures because A) my camera sucks. and B) I suck at taking pictures.

Here are the pics if I can figure out how to bring them in the right size. This is a shot of the RCA jacks mounted on the dash under Onstar.

Wiki the link to the pictures does not work!!

This is on my short list of mods to perform. Me and a few of the New York Ave boys are planning on doing something very similar to what you have done.

In addition to the RCA jacks in the Dash picture this....

1) Laptop running Windows Mill. for it's duel monitor support
2) Laptop will be positioned underneath the seat.
3) Laptop will have a DVD CD ROM
4) Wireless Keyboard and Mouse will be placed inside the center console.
5) The infra red receiver will be next to the RCA jacks in the dash and will be used to communicate with the Mouse and Key Board.
6) Second monitor will be connected to the Dash Power Supply.
7) Laptop will have GPS Receiver connected to it.

All these extra hardware devices will enble you to
1) Have a very large GPS Screen.
2) Play MP3's in your car via your laptop
3) Watch DVD's via the DVD CD ROM drive.
4) Have a fully functional computer in your car without messy installation.

Wiki, I think you are very inovative. Great job. Unfortunetaly I do not have a lot of time to do all the mods I want to.

Post Pics!!!

Here is one of a closeup of the Power inverter....God, youd think a moderator could take better pics!!!

Hey is that porn on the Lap Top Screen!!!! >:D >:D >:D

Nice set up. You did a really clean install on those RCA jacks. What mounting system did you use for the laptop?

Believe it or not, it is nothing more than steel piping and elbow joints with a floor base and a base to mount plexiglass. It is the system selling on ebay for $60. Crude, but effective!!! Do a search on ebay for "Laptop Desk".

Does this mouting system allow for people in the back seat to watch a DVD while you're driving?

I have considered buying a laptop for this since I would like a DVD system in the Av for my kids but I don't want a perminently mounted system. I figured with the laptop I can move it from my Av to my wifes TrailBlazer and I get a laptop out of the deal too.

I'm wondering about skipping? Is there anything else to consider?

Thanks for the info.

The kids can see it fine from the back seat if I spin it that way. I am going to adjust the stand some and do some tweaking to it so it is better for them. The cool thing about it is, I can still mount headrest monitors for the kids, and use the video out on the laptop to run them!! That is in my plans as well.
