Led taillights No cruise control

I use my cruise control every day since I try to push the speed limit on my 40 mile one way trip..  Set the cruise at 75 and don't worry about it..

Especially with my cluster acting up I have been guessing my speed with my phone and then setting the cruise control... But with no cruise control can't do that...

Cluster is getting worse so I will be pulling it apart to repair the hopefully easy to find bad solder joint... Probably will get an overlay for it too to change the look of it.. Fix the Air Bag stuff and be all back up to 100%...

LOL. Mine worked for years and one day I turned the cruise control on and nothing.
Turns out my CHMSL just died on me. Anyway that was the excuse I needed to get my girlfriend to let me buy the LED version to put in there instead so that's what I did.
It's not like she could have said no and I wouldn't have bought it anyway but you know once in a while she has to feel like she's involved in the decision making.

I thought so, if the third brake light blows then the cruise will not work.

???  Well I just bought the same set http://www.spyderauto.com/product.php?mode=cs&id=ALT-YD-CAV02-LED-C&car_make=Chevrolet&car_model=Avalanche&car_year=2006&t=-Chevy-Avalanche-02-06-LED-Tail-Lights-Chrome from Spider as well. Put them in and no cruise control, looked up this thread and pulled out the LED drivers side and put the stock one back in and Cruise OK.  Next I tried hooking up the Resister to the blue & black wires on the stop plug!! No cruise!! Would not work. So change it to top plug and not the stop plug and it worked like the pic showed. And everything is working with one resister??  ???  :E:

The turn signals already have load resistors(Note the little boxes on the back).. You just need the load resistor added on the top socket on blue and black wire because that is the brake wire. Supposed to do it on passenger side for cruise. Wish they would have added it to the light.

Mine looks exactlhy like the spyder but is a knock off...

Or might be made by same company that makes the spyder light just sells under different brand name. Looks just like the spyder light, is $20 cheaper and both come from China so it is likely the same unit.

Adding a resistor decreases the total resistance of the branch, therefore increasing the current flow. This gets the current more in line with what the BCM expects so it does not think there is a lamp out.

Just make sure you get the right wire... If you are slightly color blind they are close colors. I will share the pictures I took of mine in my build thread.

You may need to put a bulb in the socket to be able to take a reading when the brake is applied but the black wire is the ground and you want the wire that is the brake line. I believe the wires are blue, green and black. The Green and blue are close in color so you want to make sure you get the right one.

Also do NOT use the wire taps as shown in the picture from Dluvr, Those are very bad for automotive use. They WILL eventually work free and damage the wire they are on. I always solder my connections and never have issues. Even if I crimp a connection I will solder it then heat shrink tube to seal it or when I can't use that I always use Scotch +33 electrical tape. (Anything less will come lose over time or become brittle quickly. +33 will last quite a while. +88 is the same stuff just thicker.)

Gm Upfitter suggests always crimping and soldering if I recall last time I read it. They also say that GM actually welds the wires together which is better than soldering because it still maintains the wires flexibility. I have read in many places not to use connectors in automotive applications such as the wire taps but they still get sold to be used like that... Crimping and/or soldering should be the ONLY methods you use...

I had a similar issue with some older LED for my Brake Lights (3157) with my cruise.  Cruising down the turnpike as sunset was approaching, when my automatic headlights kicked on the cruise kicked off.  I figured it was the LEDs and yanked 'em and put the regular bulbs back in and cruised on to my destination.  That was a couple years ago and I never tried to reinstall them...I may have had them in backwards???

I do not remember the brand of the LEDs and this was on my 01 Silverado.

Ok, i installed SPYDER led taillights on my 04 avalanche z71, and cruise control stopped working entirely. After reading these comments, i went through and installed two 25W, 6ohm load resistors, one on each side, to the brake light wires, and SUCCESS! Cruise control works just fine again! Thank you for the suggestion!
