It rained the day after I bought my Av and I was checking it over for water leaks when I ran across this "Mysterious Hole" in the Left Front Fender Lining. I could see alot of the water the tire had thrown up went into this hole. I imagined going off-road and it getting filled with mud. Then I thought about all the Avs that drive in snow every winter. Something had to be done. The next day I checked the '02 and '03 Avs on the lot where I bought mine and they all had the same mysterious hole. I checked with the parts counter to see if they listed a plug for this hole. To my surprise there was no plug listed. Everyone I checked with didn't know why the hole was there and had no suggestions for plugging it. My mind started racing and "This is what I've come up with". The plug is made from neoprene rubber and measures approximately 3/16" T x 1.75" W x 3.75" L. This is "what it looks like installed". If you're wondering they are $5.00 each. If this hole is a concern of yours and you would like a plug for your Avalanche "Email me your address". If you have trouble with the links email me at azblueav@cox.net and I will Email the pics to you.

Man, now I have to run home at lunch and look under the left front fender. don't remember seeing a hole! do you have the "ground effects package" on your truck? Oh well. neat plug you made

OK... I see.. I'll check from home later as the firewall here won't let me see it - even though I'm the one who sets the FW policies. But they have to apply to everyine and changing for my convenience won't cut it...

The hole is there so access can be had to those bolts in the event that removal is necessary.

There is a painted surface behind the plastic wheel well, so it does not matter if water and/or debris get back there. It wont rust any faster than the rest of the truck.

I understand the hole is there to access those bolts. How often do you need to access two bolts that hold a bracket from your fender to the firewall? What ever the reason is, I sure don't want mine filling with Sand, Mud, Water or Snow. The plug goes in easy and can be removed if access is required.

Crabby Blue:
No I dont have the ground effects package on my Av. Did you find the hole i am talking about? Thanks, the plug works great.

LazKat:
Were you able to access the links from home?

LazKat:
I checked out your av pics, nice looking truck.
Hole? What do you think? Plug for it? :)

I had the hole on mine, the plug fits perfectly! Thanks amd1900mp! If you ever need to get to those bolts the neoprene rubber piece is very easy to take out! I like the idea due to the fact that if there is any build up in the bolt area of debris and you here a rattling noise, you never know if a rock or something got in there.
