Let The Cloning Begin...

I find it amusing how 'Avalanche' isn't mentioned once in the review, even though the midgate bears a striking resemblence. :)

Well isnt' that just the cutest little thing >:D

They probably wanted to wait and see if the AV's sold, before they made something like that. Whats the saying: Imatation is the best form of flattery?

The closest I see is this sentance near the bottom of page 1:

The rear window is fixed for added rear bulkhead rigidity and
does not lower as some other "mid-gate" systems do.

Besides Avalanche/EXT, what other midgate systems are there? It's interesting how they hyphenated mid-gate, and put it in quotes. They didn't want to acknowledge midgateTM as a GM trademark?

(I just had to put that TM in there to make my point.) ;D

It's an interesting looking little toy, but I like mine better.
I wonder if it'll fit in back as an emergency backup system? :0:

I like it. It's cute. You could get one and hang it off the side of an Avalanche, like a dinghy. ;D

But as I understand it, Nissan was the first auto manufacturer to introduce the idea of a midgate. GM was just the first to put it into regular production. Or is that another urban legend?

Sorry guys I just dont see this as anything close to the avalanche midgate. To me this just resembles the fold down rear seats that give access to the trunk of most cars these days.

Yeah, I can't beleive they didn't even mention the Av. They act like this was totally original

I bet Dr. Evil is behind this
I will call it Mini Av

I just clicked on the Subaru link and noticed the side bar ad on the right was for the 2002 Avalanche >:D

You will notice upon close inspection that the midgate doesn't completely fold down either, more of like a portal. Of course that's how it was in earlier versions. Who knows, they may have a fully folding "midwall" by now.

Still liking the original flavor better!

that is the rebirth of a 4 door brat ?yes there is a fold down to the interior cargo space BUT ? how could you comare that to an AV ? the reason they didnt mention the Av was because they didnt want to look foolish. ?that is a CAR ? the AV is a truck

I think it looks pretty cool but no way is it comparable to the Av. Not too impressed with the engine I think we'll pulling a lot of them out of ditches next year.

In case you haven't looked, attached is the photo of the Baja's portal.

From the article: "The rear window is fixed for added rear bulkhead rigidity and does not lower as some other "mid-gate" systems do."

Doesn't look like they can use the midgate, I mean, mid-gate, and the back seats at the same time either. Certainly not an improvement.

Didn't someone call this an Subaru OutBrat?

Boy... nice little black edging around the bed and pillars running up the bed.. Hmmm where have we seen that before?...
