It appears to me that the Cad Ext is lower in the back than the AV. Can anyone confirm this? If so, if I swapped my rear coils for the Cads how much would this lower the rear. I like it more level without raising the front up. ???

Thats what I would like to do, just lower the rear end
about three inches.

I would think that lowering the rear would be cheaper than jacking it up. That is an intersting idea you have. I need to take a closer look at the Caddy. Maybe I would like My Av better with the rear lowered than the front jacked up.

Interesting observation that the Caddy sits lower in the back. I too would like to get my Av's butt down!

What I'd really like is a load leveler that would let the truck sit level empty, and compensate for load, tongue weight, etc.

Seems like the Z66 system should do that - but from elsewhere on this board, I guess the Z66 has its unloaded butt in the air as well!

Yes, My Z66's butt is in the air, as all of them I guess. If enough of us inquired about it, maybe someone would come up with a modification or something that would lower the rear-end, leveling the truck without ruining something else we like.

I'd love to have a chat with the design team and ask why they did this or that. Like #1 would be, Why did you guys engineer the Av so the ass would prominently stick up? I've got a lot of questions I'd love to ask. Wouldn't that be a blast?

I'm going to be honost but I love the Avy's suspension system. It is very comfortable and smooth. On the other hand I do not like how the front dips. I would rather jack the front up than lower the rear. From what I have been reading all you have to do is adjust the torsion bars. I would do this but I am afraid that I am going to lose ride quality and possible decrease the life of my front end suspension. What do you all think?

The only negative that I can see out of fooling with the torsion bars is some pressure on the Cv joints causing the boots to crack...

My concern isn't with the Boots as much as it is with the Joints then selves. Over the years don't you think this extra stress would have its toll. What is the ideal way of raising the front. Would that involve a lift kit?

In my opinion.....of course personal preference plays a big roll here...in that If I would like to raise the front end..I would just simply go with a body lift kit and be done with it....Overall lift..overall good looks... :)

I lowered the rear of my Z71 by about 2 inches. It is now only about a half inch higher than the front. I replaced the rear Springs. The springs came from California Concepts but were manufactured by DJM suspension in southern California. Their web site is:

http://www.djmsuspension.com

They may or may not sell direct, I don't know. The springs are the same as the 4wd SUburban, of course.

Seth post some pics if you have any...we would like some visuals dude.....

So why couldn't we just buy springs for a 4wd Suburban OR Escalade?....

I would think that once we identify the difference in height, that it wouldn't be a big deal to do.

I've also got a Z66 with its butt in the air! I have been thinking about doing a 3 inch rear drop on it for some time and have been doing some research.

There seem to be a few different ways to accomplish this: lowering drop shackles; lowering block kits w/ u hangers; and, lowering springs. However, since I have never done this - I am not sure which method would be appropriate for the Av and which method (if any) would result in not having to change the shocks or modify the other suspension/chassis components.

Looking at the suspension on my truck - I can't imagine that just putting lowering springs to drop the rear three inches (like sethracer did - see previous post) would suffice without removing or getting a smaller bumpstops for the axle. I would also be concerned with possible interferences with the emergency brake lines as they are very near if not already rubbing up against suspension components or other parts of the frame/chassis. Lowering the rear may put additional stress on them - if not ruin them altogether.

It seems that the two "leading" names I most often see with regard to suspension upgrades/mods are Belltech and DJM. I was wondering if any of you have dealt directly with these companies and who you would recommend in order to get a straight answer. Any other suggestions or recommendations would also be greatly appreciated! ;D

Do you all want to drop the rear on the Avy? The EXT has a purpose for a lower rear. LUXURY!! It looks Luxurious. Nobody is going to take an EXT out back in the bog. Your not going to be filling the cargo space with 2 tons of gravel either. The EXT just doesn't need to have the Rear end sticking up in the air. It's not functional to have it. I think jacking the front up 3 inches would be the best idea for the Avy. It doesn't change what the Avy is designed to do. Hey, I am not going to fill up the bed of my Avy with 2 Tons of Gravel but in my opinion, the Avalanche would look just as Adrenaline filled if not more with a raised front end than a lowered rear end.

OK,what's an easy cheap way to raise the front end without rendering the torsion bars useless? I still think a stiff shorter spring is the way to go in the rear, but which one ??? I saw the DJM website. The coils seem a little pricey @ $155. I think Tahoe spring might accomplish the same thing, too bad I wasn't a GM parts man I could fiqure this out easily

You can raise the front end 1" to 1.5" with the Tbars & alignment - or you could buy heavier duty Tbars and swap on the 1500 [sorry, the 2500 already is within 300 lbs of the top end] ;D

???Wfbarto, the drop shackles and the ubolts with lowering blocks are only for vehicles with leaf springs i think.
The AV has coil springs so The only way to lower the ass end is to change out the springs.
my 2 cents
