Lift And Tires???

What size lift and tires is everyone's off-road favorite? Do your tires rub the inner fenders on full compression? How does a 6 inch lift and 35 inch tires effect the ride characteristics of the AV? Is everyone happy with the 4 inch lift and 33?s? Do 33?s give you enough ground clearance? I keep on hearing different stories from different people.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks P

You are looking for LiftedZ-66 about the ride comments.

He has the 6" Fab-Tech Lift with 35's ... 315/75-16 BFG A/T.

I have the Rancho 4" lift and 33" tires. I can't say as I have ever bottomed out the suspension.

Even if you go with a 6" lift your are still looking at 35" tires rubbing. According to the peeps that did my lift, a Rancho lift is actually more like 5"+ a little. You can see my Off-roading pics by either

1. Clicking on my link in my sig or...
2. Go to the Stories section and look for Niagra Creek.

It really depends on how radical you are willing to go for clearance.

Your AV looks great.... Do you go off road much? How is the ride? Did you have to tweak the torsion bars to get 5?? of lift. I bent the steel under the doors, bent my towing wire mount and pretty much gouged and loosened the cladding all the way around yesterday on trail. I?m not sure if I stuffed the wheels up into the wheel well or hit a rock, but I loosened all that rubber too. So you can see why I am concerned with clearance. The AV makes me want to hit some serious trails, rock crawl and I want to get it to a point that I?m not going to mess it up doing it.
Thanks P ;D

Same here :)
IMHO- I think the 6 inch suspension lift and 33 or 34 tires are the way to go, throw in an ARB locker in the front and have fun fun fun
Now if I can only convince the wife :p

I didn't do any tweaking of the torsion bars. Rancho under advertises its lift. A rancho Lift of 4" is equal to 5" and I have been told that a Pro Comp 6" lift is equal to a 5" lift as well.

I try to take it offroad when I can get a seconf vehicle to go. Never want to go off-roading without a second vehicle. As far as damage I have attached a pic showing my "Tail Pipe" damage I got on the Niagra Creek. This damage happened on the section called Big Rock. The funny thing is, is that the pictures don't really show how "Hairy" going over that rock was.

I have a 6"RCD lift. I originally installed 35" Goodyear MTR's. I had a fair bit of rubbing with the 35's, particularly when the suspension was working. The truck drove well, but wasn't great on the highway at high speed (see pics).

I have since switched to 33's, MTR's also. The performance of the truck is greatly improved, both on and off road. I think one thing that needs to be kept in mind when lifting this truck (especially the 2500) is the weight of the thing. These trucks are very heavy.

To anyone considering a lift I would strongly recomend the RCD lift. It is beautifully made and has performed exceptionally well in the two months I have had it. I think I get more looks than the Hummers in town.

I want to lift my Av now! :C:

You people are NOT good for my bank account! ;)

I had not seen your pics either flynhigh! I always forget to check the story section. Great pics and looks like you had a blast! (y)

I've bent back the front corner (folded it back over the bolt head) of the skid plate under the motor, scraped the frame lightly a few times on the break over angle and (of course) destroyed the trailer wiring plug bracket. A lift probably would have prevented all of these things (except maybe the trailer plug, which is doomed and needs to be moved anyway), so if you can afford it, do it! :)

Cexis,

I am glad I could help you see what you are missing >:D

Now my only question is when is your appt. to get your AV lifted? >:D

I keep thinking about getting the trialer plug moved into the bumper, but hey, I like to procrastinate so I'll wait till I destroy it. :3:

>:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D

4Wheel Parts has a special on the Rancho kit right now....Free billet grille with purchase!!!

Just tryin' to help twist that arm!!!!

Do you work at 4Wheel Parts? How much is the lift? Do you have them do the install? Where do you guys wheel?
Thanks P

ahhh don't tell me these kinda things! i may just buy a kit without the money! i tell myself, work first... lift your chevy avalanche 2nd... paint your chevy avalanche 3rd.. then work again... get married to very welthy woman.. mod your avalanche till you get divorsed.. ahh life.. gotta love it!

but really is there a link? what is a good price for a lift on a av? and are the parts red? ;D

I personally recommend going with the RCD lift. Rumor has it that the guy who runs RCD used to design for Rancho for about 20 years. Rancho was not giving his flecibility so he decided to do his own thing.

The main difference in the kits is the crossmember; Rancho has one piece, RCD has two piece. Rancho argues that the one piece is better becuase it is more rigid. RCD argues that the two piece design is better because it allows the frame to flex "as it should". If you do decide to go with Rancho, don't forget that they make the kits in black now - no longer obligated to have the red under the truck. I personally prefer the RCD kit myself.

Price wise they will be pretty close to the same. I have found that the main difference which affects the cost will be your choice of shocks. Just my .02 -
