Lifted Av, need bigger rims/tires (new question)

I am a new owner of a '02 Z71. I bought the truck with a lift kit already installed. It's a Rancho lift but I need some good guesses on the size. I'm thinking 4" or 6". I currently have 16"X8" rims with 305/70 tires. They look too small and un-proportional to this big rig. I would like to go with 18"X8" rims and want to know what's the biggest all terrain tire I can get with 18" rims and my lift. I will consider 17"s if the 18"s won't work. I don't do any mudding or hard off-roading, but I do take the truck through some trails with steep hills and good dips to get to fishing ponds and lakes regularly. I tow a trailer with two bikes and will have one in the bed also. So basically, I want the off-road look and capability but bigger rims/tires. All suggestions are welcome. TIA

What would be the largest tire I can put on a 17X10?

What would be the ideal tire to put on a 17X10?

Catch your photos.. very noce AV AND nice bike!
I'm ready to lift my AV, going w/ 6" Fabtech pr RCD.. only problem is finding wheel I like with 4 3/4 backspacing as Fabtech and RCD suggest. If you move in "other" direction like 4 1/8 bs. then will do much more trimming. I will go with 315s as well. A set of wheels I really like at this point are the Weld 6 spoke Cheyenne wheel and the Robbie Gordon RG1, can get both in 17". I'm very interested in any and all reponses you get to this post .

Good luck,

Only all-terrain 18" tires I'm aware of are the Nitto Terra Grapplers and BFG all-terrain's. These are for 285's though, would need to check on availability with larger sizes. You really start getting limited in off-road tire choices with 18's. But they do look sweet!

hth :B:

I think it looks fine with the 305's! 315's will rub even more and you may need to increase the horsepower and play with your gears with that big of a tire. Ask 11h, thats what I did and decided to stick with the 305's. Breedlove

Thanks for the info breedlove. I saw the pics of your new rims, that's one tight truck. The 305's look just right. What tires are those?

I'm new in the lifted truck area, but I have always liked the look and benefits of having a lifted truck. I am the odd ball in my family and amongst my friends. My other SUV is lowered with a lot of performance mods. I feel like a giant in this thing.

Hey King,

I actually like the rims you have now...might look better with a more aggressive tire though. Going with the mud terrains will help with the look and not hurt the overall ride quality too much. I get mine from 4WheelParts(they have ordering online also). I normally get them when on special for buy 3 get 1 free..anything helps. Might look at the XTerrain also, if you like the ProComps. Take care and enjoy the AV!

Thanks. The rims are 16" Weld Racing Outback's. I polished them since the picture to make them look better, but I want something with a little more style to them. I will be selling them this spring. I will be getting some mud terrain tires also this spring to bring out the aggresiveness of the truck and to keep me from getting stuck in the mud again. Thanks for the website, I found some great products and prices.
