Here is a pic of the LED Screw/Bolts that I used:

I got these at AutoZone....part #CZ-104R from Pilot Automotive. These are Red of course, but they do have White, Green and Blue also. They are in the "ricer" section, and they come 2 to a pack for about $5 per pack (making this a $20 mod). I have made about 3 to 6 trips to different AutoZones/ different times because they only seem to stock 1 or 2 packs on display at a time.
These are wired to the trailer Turn/Stop wiring so they have both these functions. They are not "on" otherwise.
I will post some more pics and info for early 2002 and 2003/2004 install later. (y)
Thanks for the interest in this (y)

Did you order the 5mm or the 10mm from superbrightleds.com?
LordVader and I both ordered the 5mm, only because the 10mm doesn't come in red.

Hey Chris, thanks for the info. I can't wait to do this mod.

Woe, woe ,woe Manny if you need a nice warm garage to do this mod just let me know and we can maybe do mines as well.

Anybody find the lights where a little loose once they put them back in using CZ-104R part? ... I just tried one and when I stuck it in the sleeve in my hand it almost fell out of the hole ... should we stick on with a little silicone in the hole?

I did have this happen to me on a couple. If you are doing an early 02 with the torx screws....this is actually a good thing. It allowed the bolt to be screwed in without twisting the wiring. When I did mine (02), I would reverse twist the wires on the LED before insertion, because it had to screw down just like the original bolt.
With the newer plastic screw versions (2003+), that much turning is not necessary.
Good idea on the silicone though (y). Mine are still loose and don't seem to be an issue.

Dave, I think we can make it a GTG at you garage. Bill (Powersurge), Todd (LordVader), Jude (Bonedog), and me.

That'll be real cool just bring a help wanted section with you, after we get all those AV's in here I'll be needing it. LOL

Yeah, I forgot that that was the place you work as well. LOL :2:

tapped into the trailer wiring harness, because on a trailer, one light (one wire) does both Turn/Brake functions. Example.... if you are at a stop w/ your right turn signal on....the left LED bank is solid red (stop) and the right LED bank is flashing for the turn signal.
I checked this for someone last night: the Yellow trailer harness wire is the Left Turn/Brake and the Dark Green Wire is the Right Turn/Brake on the 2003/04. I believe the 02 is the same, but I will check.
Are the yellow and green wires the hot wires? If so, where did you pick up the ground?
John

Manny if you want PM me or call me let me know what your schedule is like, we can even take a quick ride to pep boys and pick up whatever we need.

Im gonna hit the ricer shop in the morning......all places i looked didnt have them......I know my boys at performance will.......great idea...I will post pics when done....

Yes, the yellow and dark green wires are the +12 volt source. There is a HUGE 10 gauge wire in the trailer harness for ground. On early 2002s this wire is white, and on any thing newer it is black in color. This wire may be a little difficult to tap into.

I simply put a ring terminal on the end of the LED ground wires and went to a frame ground screw. This ground point is on the rear body mount bracket and has 2 existing ground wires on it.
Good luck John!

WesTexAVY ... thanks for the info on my question .... looks like this is going to be a w/e mod for me ... got to take one set of the lights back as the wires snaped off right at the bottom of the bolt ... hope they got two sets as I now see there is 8 bolts instead of 6 .... damn snow ...

WesTxAv,

You are the man..... ( yes I am sucking up to you. )

When I saw yours at the GTG in Dec. I could not wait to get the cash to get these things.

Now that I have them. I think I can get a 12 pack and drive on over.

Also let me know what I need to install them as for wire and all and the same thing with the cargo light Mod.

You have my cell phone number just give me a call and I will get the stuff.

Your decals are made I just have to go pick them up.

Bowtie

Hey Pete!
I have everything needed. We'll hook up this week and have a mini modfest on your truck ;D .

I have one question though. What is the best way to route the wires from the tool box to the trailer harness ???
Here is a pic of where I am now.

what if you havent used your trailer harness...its in a drawer in the shop....where do you find power then...

Hey Josh, How dificult was it to get this far on this mod, to install the screws, also I believe you can shove the wire down the drain in the side storage bin, just put it in one of those small black wire looms so it looks nicer.
my $0.02

Great tip HeavyD (y) It wasnt hard at all. I butted them all together within the sail panel and piggy tailed one set of wires to the toolbox. Then I tested them with a 9v battery and every thing works.
