Lighted Sail Panel Screws

Here is a pic of the harness that you will need to make:
So I got the Oznuim LEDs installed into the sail panels and have extended the wires off each one to the rear lights and have enough wire to also run it to the trailer harness if need be.  I have seen this and one other diode resister setup and was interested in does it matter which setup is used to goto lights or harness.  I also wanted to know where people are grounding the leds at.  I'm no electrical genius and just need alittle more help or explanation on where to install the diodes/resistor setup and where to connect.  Thanks alot.

If you use the one pictured from that quote (it's the one most members have used with great success)
I would suggest tapping into the trailer harness. It's just easier, and if you ever have any taillight issue's you can be sure that your wiring didn't have anything to do with it. Just my .02

As for the ground, there should be a ground in the trailer harness or you can use the grounding point at the rear. (from under the truck if you look up at the frame on the driver side, near the rear bumper, you will see a grounding clip.) It will already have a wire grounded to the frame with a metal tab.

Ok I finally Installed my Led's this week and here are a few pics.  I will try and get a few more day and night pics.  I want to thank all those that posted.  I wanted to say a special thanks to Tangochaser and Ohiobellboy for all the information and photos.  I used travelingman's wiring diagram and hooked mine up to the trailer harness and I too used those posi lock connectors which were excellent.  I used Oznium leds and they work out really good.  Sorry a few pics are blurred but I wanted to show a before and after.  I will have to post a few post to show all the pictures since I have a limit on size.

My sail panels just stopped working as running lights.  I checked my running lights and they are fine.  All the other functions of the sail panels work so I can't figure out why just the running lights aren't functioning.  Any ideas would be helpful.

Check the connection.  Check the Diode.  Check the resistor.  To check the diode and resistor, you'll need a mulimeter.  If you don't have one, just replace them - it's cheaper.  But I bet it's probably the connection.  Check that first.

What method did you use to run power to them from the harness? If you used a crimp on tap, it's probably the connection like chAVey said.

I used one of those posi tab connectors to connect to the trailer harness power.  I checked the connection on one end but haven't actually checked where the posi tab pierces the power wire.  I will try and check that today or tomorrow just been busy hunting and no time to mod but there is light at the end of the tunnel.  Thanks for the ideas and I will post back with an update.

You guys rock!
Special thanks to Tangochaser, Ohiobellboy, & SilverICE.
Finally installed my LED's from Superbright.  I got the 19" (30 light) waterproof flexible strips.
Ran them on the sail panels and they look great.
Used the trailer lights and converter from 7wire to 4 wire.
The resistor and diode layout is perfect.  Very easy.

Doing the same to the wife's Suburban tomorrow.

Thanks everyone!

Very nice work!  Like the look.  My sail lights no longer work.  The right hand side kept blowing the fuse, so I disconnected them.  I am sure it is something simple like metal to metal contact.  Maybe if I make the Nationals in July, I can get someone to look at them with me? ???

Thanks!

The Burb was a piece of cake.
They fit perfect with the leads tucked in at the top and run down the driver's side.
Remove 4 screws and you have direct access to the trailer harness.
With the harness made up the night before it literally took me 30 min's to put them on and finish the job.

Hmmmm.... Now you have me thinking, since I have a 07 Tahoe.  Do you have a picture a little closer showing where you have them mounted to?

Tango,

Sorry wife just left for work.
I mounted them right on the edge of the glass.
The strip is about 19.5" long and only 3/8" wide.  It is nowhere near the wiper line and the wires tuck in to the moulding.
I used a piece of shrink wrap to hide and protect them from UV or chaffing.

If you want I will pm you more detailed photos this weekend.  It was a lot easier than my AV.

I may be adding to the top on mine.  I wanted them to wrap around to meet the 3rd brake light.

Appreciate a pic when ever you get around to it.  So it's attatched to the glass?  two sided tape?

Directly on the glass right at the edge.  My thought was if it didn't look good it would be easier to remove.
I will curious how long it takes my wife to scrape them off cleaning the rear window off????

Here is the link.  Bought the waterproof strip at the bottom.  http://www.superbrightleds.com/light_bars-flexible.html
They come with high quality 3M tape already applied!
They give a 12" wire tail pre-soldered ready to hook up to your harness.  I used 18G to run to the harness.

I wish I could get it to follow the contour of the sail panel arch better.  I think it would look really sharp!

Looks like a Line of Fire cut in half. I like it, but with an LOF already on my AV, it might be too much to have in place of the Sail Panel lights.
