Lighted Sail Panel Screws

I have had the SBL on for 5 years now.  my biggest gripe has been how much the stick out. I have managed to hit and break 4 so far.
with that said...

... I just placed my order at Oznium....

Nice find!

Finally did this! :woot:

I have pondered it for awhile because I did not want them to be noticeable at all during the day so I used Oznium 5mm LEDs and the plastic LED holders. I dont know how everyone else was doing this but I only used the smaller piece of the LED holder and then re used the stock clip. I pushed the smaller piece of the LED holder into the old stock piece and then shoved the LED in from behind and it ould only come throgh far enough to be flush. They def really give it a cool look from behind. Heres everything I used just in case anyone didnt already know. Thanks to TangoChaser for the help with the link to these instructions that really helped me get the info to do this. And a great harness to use so you can use running, brake and turn signals.

Recessed very well, should last a long time. Good job.  (y)

good job Logan! this is another one of those mods waiting to be installed..

Thanks!
Yeah My LEDs sat on the workbench for about 2 weeks and I couldnt take it. And its not a hard mod but be ready to curse numerous times while doing this. ex: when you drop the leds shorter wire back down into the cladding after fishing it up through like 6 times  :E: I started fishing it through and taping it to the sail

Well worth it though I suppose

Thank you too sir
I even dropped a little dab of sillycone onto the back of the LED so it wouldn't come loose :woot:

Awesome job Logan!  You're really getting all the lighting done!  (Just wait - got some more on UPS right now to do myself!)

Just a hint to everyone - those triangle piecs of plastic below the sail panel that keep the leaves out of the "water management system" - they just pry up with a flat tip screwdriver.  They are just snapped into place - no screws at all.  Pop those out and the sail panels come apart really nice and wide to do all the wiring.  Makes the job a whole lot easier.

Yeah I pryed at them a little and it was being a little hesitant, but then I said screw it and just popped the upper sail panel piece off and could reach down behind the sail and hold out while I pushed the LED in. And I scraped all the old tape off he top and put new 3M across there  (y)

If you want the Superbright LEDs flush you just need to strech/ream out the plastic bushing that will allow them to sit flush.

I read post 699 about the 07's and I didn't quite get it.  Does anyone have any pics of the 'harness' they created?  I'm going to do this soon and would like to do it as easily as possible. :D

Yo guys i wanna do this on my 08 Avi but i dont know which wires to tap into to get them to be on with the running lights and if its possible to blink with the blinkers

bought the bulbs, holders and resistors from radioshack so they would lay flat and wired em all myself.

any help would be nice thanks

Read post 699 here.  That tells you how to hook the wires to the 2007/8.

can you be a little more specific on where the wires are located to tap into and how exactly to do this. All of my lights Are wired with resitors already on with a positive and negative wire.

if its too hard to explain can u guys just tell me when wire to hook into to make them running lights.
Thanks
Tom

Remove your tail light assy.  The wires should be clearly labeled for "Major", "Minor", and "Ground" at the lamp plug.

Look at Post # 657 here.  That shows a good wire diagram.  For the 2007/8s, you can delete the 330 ohm resister and wire.  You're going to run all the leds, take all the red wires from the leds & twist them together into 1 wire, add in the Y at the other end for the resistor as shown in 657 above, then hook those into the "major" wire.  Take the other part of that red "Y" (withoug resister) and tap it to the "minor" wire.  Take all the black wires from the LEDs and make 1 wire and run to "ground".  Read post 699 & post 704.

So basically i split the wire into 2. One with a 100ohm resitor one with out. The one witht he resitor i tap into the Major and the one without the resistor i tap into the minor. Then i tap the ground into the ground.

this is right..right?

Correct.  But make sure you put diodes on those wires too.

So i need two 50v diodes for each side. One for each of the positives that come out of the Y?

because it looks like thats what i forgot because i hooked everything up the way it says, but with out the diodes and they only work with  running lights.

thanks for all the help Chavey  hope to meet you at a meet sometime

Put the diodes in and still the lights only work as running lights.

I have it set like this

4 leds withe 560ohm resistors attached at the stem. Connected the positive and the negatives. THen ran them all the way to the tail lights. Then split the positive into 2 wires.  Both with the 50v x 1amp diodes faceing the leds and then just one with a 100 ohm resistor attached. Then attached the one with the resistor to the major and the one without it to the minor then the ground to the ground.  i did this to the top bulb in the light.

Any help would be greatly appreciatied.

Help I have a 2008 I have tried the green wire brown wire and yellow wire all blow the fuze, how do i hook up the sail lights I know it is somewhere on this site just cant find it

thanks

I think it starts here at this post and then read forward...

Don't need to read that far back.  Look at the pic in post 657  here.  Then read my posts #699 & 705 on the following pages.  You only have to worry about "Major", "Minor", and "Ground" (don't know the colors).  For the 2007+, you only need 2 wire diodes - one with resistor and one without.  That's the only difference from Moose's post 657 but the pic is really good to show you how to solder all the wires together.

thanks found everything got the lights hooked up also found out the 2008 has the blinkers on the yellow wire

Ok I know this sound complicated. I want to run the sail panel light screws with the blinkers and brake lights with the running lights on low voltage.  But I want the blinker to wig wag with my tail light blinker.  ???

Any thoughts....

This is what I know.... I can get the sail lights to wig wag with the tail lights by
Positive wire from the sail lights to the Running lights (brown wire) and Negative to the the Tail light blinker creating a false ground.

Problem:  No break light and the running light are always on.

The other way you can hook up the resistor to the running lights and the yellow trailer light in a y format then the negative to a ground source.  So I can have brake and turn signal on the sail lights.

Problem: No wig wag.

Is there anyway possible of making this work or am I just going way out there

Thanks
