Lighted Sail Panel Screws

I have a question about the lights I have a 2008 avalanche and put the sail panel lights in, not the blinkers are blinking fast like a light is out but they all work fine, could I have a blow dodie or resister.

I posted that I had ordered my Ozniums back in april (post 900)...here it is September and I finally got them installed.  I had the suberbrite LEDs before...I wish I had found these a long time ago.  what a difference.  I like the stealth look (looks just like Logan's).  LEDs are bright.

thanks to the wife for bringing me beers while I was up on the Avy!

I've had mine for at least two months and still haven't installed them.
Maybe if I cleaned out my garage so my truck would fit that would help......

I just ordered 8 10mm LED's for my Avy.  Should be here this week so I am looking forward to installing these puppies this weekend.

Got mine all done!

Couple 'lessons learned' from doing this on my '07:

1) I hooked into the trailer hitch instead of the rear tail lights.  My feeling was...if I mess something up I would rather not have power to the trailer hitch than the rear lights
2) I ran the wiring under the saddlebag cover then down through the hole before the tail light assembly.  One thing I did rather then run 3 wires down that hole was to wire-nut them together so they were a little easier to maneuver around in that void-space. Plus when pulling the wires down from under the truck it was much nicer to pull one set of wires rather than 3 individual ones.
3) I bought the 10mm red LED's from superbrightled. http://www.superbrightleds.com/specs/bolt_specs.htm.  With those LED's I chose to stay with the 330ohm resistor rather than the 220ohm to handle the running lights.  I'm not sure what the difference would have looked like however the difference between the stop/turn and the running lights is plenty different.
4) For the love of humanity...if your spouse/SO is NOT mechanically inclined DO NOT LET THEM HELP!!!  I had divorce lawyers on the phone...lol
5)It took me around 3 hours to do this.  I did it by myself and most of that time was getting the wiring harnesses setup.  I chose to solder most of them together and only used butt-connectors or splicers where I had to.

Anyway, my .02 is that it went extremely well, thanks to the help from everyone on here!

Just did my sail lights. I didn't think I would like them and thats why I never did them until now.  They look pretty good - just like everyone else that has done them!  I went with the Oznium 5mm LEDs for the flush look.  Only hooked up to running lights because thats all I wanted. I tapped right into the tail lights.  Between the LOF and OEM lighting, if you cant tell I'm turning or stopping then your gonna hit me anyway. When my BB decides to send the pics I took to my email, I'll post them.

1 Question: Inside the sail panels running along the top edge is a metal ridge.  I ran most of the wires up along there.  Anyone know if this is a drain/runoff for rainwater?

I think you are referring to Body Brace under the Plastic cladding. There is no water run off under the cladding.

Thanks MS03. I didn't think so, just wanted to be sure.  Here is a pic; parking lights on. Low resolution (so its allowed size-wise to be posted) from my cell and its raining.

Looks good I wish I knew about the Oznium lights when I did mine.

Thanks. I like them, flush and bright. Next lighting mod will probably be street glow side steps with the dual amber and white lights.  Wish they made a dual  led for the sails that lit white in reverse like my lof.

Someone told me once that they do have them but they are EXPENSIVE...like $20 per LED.  I haven't looked for them myself though so I can't guarantee the accuracy.  I used the 10mm LED's from superbrightleds.com and have been pretty pleased so far.  The only issue I forsee is that my sail panels are fading and the dealer is trying to get GM to replace the panels.  If they do this...I will have to remove then reinstall all the LED's all over again... :E:

That's funny they are not going to replace the sail panels, they may Gatorback them which is a coating. Even if they replace them they will just do the same thing.

This is a mod I've been wanting to do for a long time now and just now getting around to figuring out what I need and how exactly to hook it up. After reading all 38 pages I've come across two different harnesses that were shown. One from ShapeShifter (reply #206) that showed only using two diodes for each side and running to the trailer harness, and one from MooseAlanche (reply #657) that showed using 3 diodes for each side and running them to the tail lights. My questions are which one if any is better and what is the difference between the two other than extra diodes?

Start with Moose's on post 657-ish.  You will need the 3 diode harness for the 2002-2006.  On the 2007+, you only need a 2 diode harness.  Read my posts near 700-ish for a complete shopping list.

NO! NO! NO!  LEDs are pretty cheap - $2 each.  You can do this whole mode for $20-40 depening upon whether you have the wire or not.

Thanks chAVey, hopefully I get around to ordering my LED's from Oznium soon. Install might take awhile since it's deer season.

Yes the LEDs mod costs in that price range.  The Oznium 5mm LEDs cost $13.20 (pack of 10), plastic holders $2.90 (pack of 10) shipping $9.46 for piority mail, which in my case was a complete waste. Save the $5.00 -I wanted to do this when I was on vacation and I received them 2 days after I ordered, just in time for 4 days of rain and the end of my vacation.  :E: (Total $25.56).  I ordered 2 extra LEDs and holders to be on the safe side.  Bought a 40' roll of 18 gauge red wire for $5.99 at Advanced Auto and had everything else (black wire, tape and connectors).

The $20 LED referred to a dual color LED that lit red and white for the sail panel.  Red for parking, stop and turn and white for reverse.  I previously posted that I wished my sails lit white in reverse to match my LOF.  Apparently someone here found LEDs that did that but they are a bit on the expensive side.  And i would guess they are bigger than 5mm or if not, they are probably not as bright.

Chavey, I did the whole mod for ~$30 myself but I was referring to the cost of multi-color LED's, not the cost to do everything with a single-color LED.

Has anyone installed the Oznium Led's on an 02 with the torx screws? How do they fit in the sail panels and keep them together??

Here are pics of the ones I installed.

UPDATE:

FYI for those who were skeptical as to whether the LED strips would hold up.

It's been over a year and they have been perfect.
Probably just jinxed that - Oh Well! :E:
They've saved mu butt (literally) a couple times with people following too close or not paying attention.
They're bright and cover the whole back end.
