OK, got my new 4.10 gears and love them.  The really woke up with this mod.  >:D

The shop said to drive it 700 miles and change the fluid.  I took a loop around southern Utah Saturday and came back home to break in the new gears and put on the miles.  Today I bought the Royal Purple gear lube and a tube of Limited Slip Additive.  Drained the old (new) stuff and added the new stuff.  After I was done    :E:  I read the bottle of Royal Purple and it said it had the additive in it already.

"All viscosities of Max-Gear are formulated with hypoid friction modifiers necessary for use in clutch or cone type differentials. No additional additives are necessary."

Did I goof?  Should I drain and refill with just the Royal Purple?  Hurry, tell me what you think, inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks.

PS G80 does not need additive

I guess my one and only question is.... why would one bother to read the instructions after the service?

I would not drain it. I don't see how it will harm anything. Its just a friction modifier  :D

That isn't the reply I was looking for.  And, I already brought that up when I was  :E:  :E:  :E:

As simple as it was I am leaning to draining and refilling it anyways.  :E:

ygmn is correct - the G80 doesn't need the friction modifier.

I don't know if it will hurt or not; if it was me, I would call the shop that installed the gears (or another competent shop) and see what they suggest. My suspicion is that it won't hurt anything.

Its not going to harm anything but maybe you better just do it so you can sleep nights  :D

Good thought on calling the shop, but they charged me for the additive when they did the work.

Things that make you go Hmmm.
