LINE OUTPUT CONVERTER

I am installing 2 12" subwoofers in the bed, but I am using the factory head unit.... Therefore I am using a "line output converter" to run to the amp.

Does anyone have any comments or information about where would be the best/easiest place to tap into the speaker wires for the converter?

HELP!

i actually did not use a line output converter...just seemed like an added expense to run the wire to my sub when i have high level or speaker level inputs on the amp. I got a four channel amp bridged to 2 channels running to 2 10's. i have the inputs for the four channels spliced into one speaker wire - and + that is spliced into the right rear speakers output in the front right after the factory amp.

Thanks for your input!

However, if I do use the line output converter:

(A) - Can I splice the speaker wires after they leave the factory amp?

(B) - If so, where is the best/easiest place to do this?

I'm sure that I'm going to use the line output converter. So at this point, I'm just trying to work with what I have.

Thanks

if you are using a line output converter then yes you should splice into the wires after the factory amp. and where to splice is really up to you. some people have spliced into the wires just after the amp...like me and some have spliced into the wires further on towards the speakers...i felt it was easiest to just tap into the wires right behind the glovebox where the wires are easy to get it....relatively...i also had thought of a line level converter but since my amp has line level inputs...i would have been adding another $30+ expense onto my system that wouldn't have an effect on sound quality or atleast not a positive one...in fact if your amp supports line level inputs...i've heard some good advice on avoiding a line level converter b/c it could add signal noise and distortion...I've not had any problems with my system and love the bass...and it's free of distortion issues until the factory headunit hits that brick wall at like 20 something clicks of volume where the factory hu begins to distort audio output

but if your amp will not support speaker level inputs...then you will have to convert to rca style low level inputs...

Thanks alot... this is what I was looking for! However, I am going to splice in the bpillar. Wont have to run wires as far. Thanks for the info.

Hi for those of you who want to add an amp best thing to do if you don't have onstar, get the metra 70-2002 plug and do the amp bypass, then you can also wire up your convertor from there. this will leave all of your wires intact without voiding any warranties. And if you ever wanted to go back to factory unplug the metra connector and plug up the oem amp.

There was a posting to do the bypass here a few days ago.

I have onstar and will attemp this soon. Not sure if it will make my onstar not work anymore. will try it and let you know.

did you get that line converter installed? If so where did you put it?

i went in on both doors..drivers door is brn+yellow-
pass drk blue + light blue- hope it helps..mine showed brn and yellow at the speaker plug in's on both sides..also was under front doors...al

So did you use a line converter on both doors? or just run a line and connect them to one?
