Listing / Lean To One Side...

Shimok, Sounds like you got the exact same problem that I have here...

I adjusted the T-bars to no end.... I have the lean bearable now, but I notice a bit of teeter-tottering due to the uneven loading of the t-bars to get things to sit somewhat level.

This brings out some funny handling problems - Like when the camber of the road changes, you can feel the truck 'wiggle' and settle into a lean... when it leans, the wheel likes to be turned a few inches to the opposite side to keep the truck pointed straight.

It's quite frustrating at times.

I go for a few weeks at a time without noticing it... then all it takes is one bad road to point it out to me and I start ranting like I do on here. :)

I've been trying to get a Saturday free so I can go to the dealer and try to explain all of this without sounding like I should be wearing an aluminum foil hat.

I don't have a pic of mine on here yet but it is a 2002 Z71. I didn' t like the "Raked" look that they put on trucks so I adjusted my torsion bars. I raised the front about an inch and took the "Starboard List" off of my Avalanche...Has been fine since...Make sure you do measurements before and while you make the adjustment.

metalhd1, that's a good option.....BUT, I trailer a 5000lb camper, so the tounge weight makes the truck 'pop a wheelie' if I have too much preload up front. ?:cautious:

I suppose I could always back them out when towing....... but I'm a little on the lazy side. ?;) ;D

What's funny about my problem -----------

This weekend I took the truck offroad. ?Offroad as in, around my house, into the backyard, which would be similar to driving on a rather poorly maintained fireroad. ?When I got back on the road again, the truck was all torqued to the 'OPPOSITE' side of things.... ?I think I shifted something in the suspension, and now all of the adjustments I made to get to ride level, forced it to lean to the other side. ?I backed out the drivers t-bar adjust to "just about" even with the passenger side, and things seem okay so far........... VERY VERY weird. ?Nothing looked out of place under the truck during the last 24K miles I had the problem.

I'm not going to ask any questions. ?Not going to look underneath. ?:)

I should also mentioned that I've lightly off-roaded the truck a number of times in the past when I had the problem. Nothing like this ever happened.

Okie Dokie...

So I bit the bullet and brough the truck in...

Surey Says?!

"It's okay."

Everything measured out to within 1/4" difference. The tech took it for a ride, and tossed it on the alignment rack - they said everything checks out okay (even after all my T-bar adjusting). He said that he used to have a older 4x4, which he SWORE would lean real bad when he drove it... but he say's it's an illusion.

I'd normally be kind of upset for spending my time down there, but he gave me a sweet doc off of service.gm.com (a restricted site). It's all about trim height specs, and how to measure and adjust everything. This is real handy for us torsion bar tweakers.

I can scan it in, if needed... but, uhh... would that be legal or legit to do?

Oh yeah... I'm still not 100% happy about the leaning situation. It's not nearly as bad as it was, but still gets a case of the leans when I park it on a slight incline. I may drop the rear axle and swap the springs this weekend. I'll see what the weather will be like.

Okay, yeah... so the weather was nice, so I swapped the rear springs. It was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.

The springs were marked exactly the same (same tags/numbers), and they were the exact same unloaded height.

The verdict: It's better now, but not quite perfect. I need more saddle time to tinker with the torsion bars and really tell. I may be able to work it out with just the t-bars now.

If not, I'm working some idea's on how to build a spacer for the weak-side spring.

I was redirected to this thread after posting my "problem" about 4 hrs ago. My AV leans to the right, as viewed from the rear, approx. 1" (vertical meas. difference between right and left side of step), with a full tank of gas. After reading some of these posts, it seems as if it'll get worse when the tank is empty. Any suggestions?

I just picked up this rig a few days ago and I absolutely love it...so does my wife who let me get it.

Thanks for any help. You guys are great!

If you think one rear spring is weaker than the other , just swap them. It should not take any more than an hour to do the swap. I also have a list (must be a boater) to the drivers side but it is not as pronounced as yours. I changed out to B & G lowering springs and the difference now is about 1/4"
