Bowling Green will become the scene of an avalanche of Chevrolet vehicles this weekend with the 2005 Bluegrass National Avalanche Meet.
The meet begins today with registration at Baymont Inn and Suites and will continue through Sunday.
This will be the first national meet for the Middle Tennessee Avalanche Club ? which includes much of Tennessee, Bowling Green and Huntsville, Ala., club and meet coordinator Scott Gattis said.
?The club is a new local club in middle Tennessee,? he said. ?We met last summer with about a dozen trucks.?
The club expects about 100 trucks, many of which are coming from Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky and Texas, Gattis said. Other Avalanche clubs have large events in different venues.
?We wanted to do something to allow people in the central part of the country to join us,? he said.
Bowling Green seemed like a good place to have the event, Gattis said.
?There?s a big GM presence and so much to do,? he said. ?We?re going to the Corvette Museum, Corvette Plant, Beech Bend Raceway.?
Gattis is excited about the upcoming meet. He said there?s much to love about the Avalanche.
?Most of the time, people with unique vehicles are passionate. This is not a truck, and it?s not an SUV,? he said. ?There are a lot of things people can to customize to their liking. It?s a good ride, a great vehicle.?
