Locking Differential

Is it possible to add a locking differential to a base model AV. I got an good deal on an advertised AV but it does not have a locking differential and I can see times that I may want it when I am launching my boat on a ramp.

There are a lot of aftermarket ones that you can add. Other than that I think that you would need to have the Z71 package.

Matt, Yes most dealer service departments should be able to do that. There are other lockers to choose from but most make a little more noise. Matt
 
Guess I will give it a try a few times and see if I need it. If I have problems I will call the dealer and see the cost.

Just thought I would mention that the locking read diff. is also available on the Z66 models as well as the Z71.

Yes that is exactly what I did. They gave me a good price on a base AV and that is the one option I wanted. A local rod shop quoted me $600 and I think the dealer charged me $725. I went with the dealer just in case there was a problem on a new truck. I now have 7000 miles and there have not been any problems what so ever.

I have a 2003 base AV 4X4 and got the "Locking Differential -Rear Axle" as an option. Its MSRP is $295 on my sticker. Can't speak for the 2004's though...
Sounds like you already took delivery of your AV?

Does it say on the sticker what the $295 is for? Mine said "No description". After having seen it on many Av's for awhile someone told me what the $295 option was.

Looking at the sticker right now and the description for that line is "Locking Rear Differntial". Don't know why yours is blank next to that cost. The best way to make sure is to look at the sticker in the glovebox and look for code "G80", that is the RPO for the locking rear.
