Hello All,
Well, here is where getting a lot of answers will come in handy.
I've just called my local Chevy dealer and they told me that a locking gas cap is not yet available for the Avalanche. Has anyone else out there run into this? I've also tried the aftermarket. No luck. It seems that with the high cost of fuel, something such as this would be popular.

i just finished installing a locking gas cap on my av, i ordered it thru my dealer it is pt no 12495845{gm pt no} for $26.00 + tax, you can order it thru gm partsdirect [same pt no] for $18.28 +shipping and handling, it comes with a tether and has 2 keys, i decided this was a good investment after my neighbors surburban was removed of its gas by @%&***## people or person it is sort of a pain to carry another key and unlock the cap but with gas at $1.70 per gallon i feel it is a good investment! 30 gals x $ 1.75 = $ 52.50, hope this helps! DENNIS

You can order on the cheap through our site sponsor. If you go to the Resources section you'll find a part number index with descriptions, including the locking gas cap. As noted it's a bit of a pain requiring a second key (for bench seat Av's) or a third key (for bucket seat Av's).

Dal will take good care of you!

Good Afternoon all,
Well, Chief, I ordered mine through Dal today. I told him that I found mention of his dealership through the club. He sounded really busy, maybe that was other Avalanche members calling for parts! :D

i think that this a definite must buy for all Av owners.

i, myself, am going to be placing an order with Dal very soon and have my Av a bit more protected (as if the menacing looks, cladding, protection bars, and alarm isnt enough...hehe ;) ;) )

;D

I have to echo j66.....having a locking gas cap is almost a must these days....I like sugar in my coffee not in my gas tank....I curious as to why chevy did not just make a remote fuel door unlock form inside the cabin....most of the cars now adays have them.....

Something to think about...

So who's going to be ambitious enough to try and add a remote release? ? Lots of pics of the whole process whoever does it! ?

Good question. Even the POS camry i leased (will never lease again) 3 years ago had a release from inside.
why is the AV so.. "behind" as far as gas locks? grr. bunch junk!
anyways. definatly need a locking one. I have had sugar poured into my engine before- its not cool.

Paging Jason Pendlum - how about a remote release for the fuel cover? ;D

Just imagine a 12 volt solenoid firing right above your filler cap ;D

I ordered my Locking gas cap and a set of locking lugs from our site supporter Dal at Van Devere. The cap was $20.38, and the lugs were $28.22.

;DHi all! ;D

The 1st day I had my AVY, I decided to install a locking gas cap! So, I went to Wal-Mart and asked an attractive blonde lass in Automotive if she could set me up with a locking gas cap for my AVY... (Hey, I'm single again...LOL!)

Anyway, she told me she didn't have an application guide but took me over to the display and they only had two locking plastic cap styles and one metal one. She suggested a particular one and even opened it for me. She said to try it out in the parking lot and if it didn't work to bring it back!

As a result of this quest, I NOW have faith in blondes and know why Wal-Mart is the #1 US Corporation.

The correct cap is STANT #11591 for $9.95 (about the cost of 1/4 tank of unleaded).

I got rid of the tether because it gets ripped off anyway here in Oregon by the gas jockeys (we can't be "trusted" to fill our gas tanks in this state :p)

BTW, that lass also knew the correct amber bulb for the DLR's.

Best wishes, Gary

I took my chances on a Suburan locking gas cap. I've had it since July last year, and no problems (knock on wood).

AVYNUT, go back to the Walmart, get her to sign up as a preferred vendor and ask her out, seems like she beats most of the service departments around. ;D

Hey gandolphxx,

Talk about a Spring/Autumn relationship. She was about 25... I'm 47. Anyway, the Stant Cap works perfectly, has 2 keys, and was made in the USA! Locking Cap from a 'Burban/Tahoe should be the same.

Now if only I could figure out when/if to change that diffy oil... I might go back and ask that Wal-Mart Lass what she recommends!

 ;D

Sounds about right to me, she is young enough to be trainable and your old enough to know that you can't.

By all means check out this messy differential issue.

Right-O gandolphxx,

I've been following the DIFF thread now and am hopeful by the time I get 5K on my AVY, I'll know what to do!!!

I have a 06 Avalanche and have a locking gas cap. I purchased it from the local NAPA dealer. It cost $21. 00 and works good. The only disadvantage is that there is really not a lot of space to unlock it, especially if your in a hurry.

welcome to the club aka_soldier
know what you mean about the space, especially if you have a lot of keys  :E:

I have had a locking gas cap since day one and never had a problem taking it off in the last 94K miles of driving

You could install a locking billet gas door cover. It would have plenty of access to the lock.? (y)

That's what I got! (y)

That is something I am thinking of getting since there are people stealing gas.
