locking gas cap

The GM locking gas cap I ordered came in the other day.  It even has a groove for the cas cap tether!  In order to remove the tether from the non-locking cap and install on the locker, I used a hair dryer to heat up it up around the cap.  This way it can be pulled off without breaking it.  Then ya have to heat it up again and real quick pop it into the groove, and work it around until it pops on.  Pretty slick!

The part number is GM 10326376, group 3.028.

Oh yeah, it will reach the tab on the fuel door easy.  I drove over 100 miles today and no CEL either.    I'm not sure if it will fit earlier models.  Here is a pic of it next to my non-locking cap.  If yours has this triangle molded into it, this new locking cap will fit.

I got the stant one that looks just like the factory.  Works fine, no lights  on dash.  I also was able to use the tether on the new cap.  I seen many post where people just yanked the tether out.  You just have to be patient and work the tether off a small part at a time starting where the thether meets the cap.  Putting it on the new cap was just the same.

For all of you looking at the locking gas cap, if you are trying to keep someone from adding something bad to your gas, it will work for that. If you are worried about someone stealing your gas, don't WORRY! GM has put a anti-theft screen into the filler neck years ago! I found this out by buying one of those siphon pumps and trying to get gas out of my Avalanche a couple of years ago. My idea was to fill my mowing tractor from my Avalanche tank thus not having to take that 5 gal gas can to get gas all the time. Well the hose of the pump would not get down into to gas so I started asking questions and was told that GM did this to prevent theft! Now I suppose that a experienced thief could figure out a way to get your gas, but then he probably could do it even if you have that locking cap.

Thats the exact reason I have had a locking cap on every vehicle I have owned since I started driving

Does anyone know where to get one for the 2013 Black Diamond Avalanche?  I just bought one in White Diamond Tricoat and want to keep it safe in everyway.
Thanks

I sure hope those locking gas caps have improved since the 1970s. When gas was in short supply back then many people got them and many had problems with loosing their key or lock malfunctioning and they could not add gas to their vehicle.
Then the thieves discovered that some gas tanks has a drain plug and they would crawl under the vehicle and open the drain to get gas.
Nasty thieves wouldn't even use the drain they would just puncture the tank and drain the gas. Vehicle owners then had to buy a new gas tank or have the old one welded after remaining gas and vapors were removed of course.
Now i read that thieves go for the catalytic converters to sell the metal in them using a battery operated saw.
Maybe the shock sensor added to the factory alarm could help protect the AV from tampering?

Welcome to the site azernot! Enjoy your new AV.
