Anyone install locking lug nuts ? I live in one of the highest auto-theft areas of the US, and would like to protect the tires and rims.

Checked GMPartsDirect, and got the same part # as my wife's Regal, #12497480. Don't think that's right. The Av's 1500 17" wheel lug set have threads on the outside of the lug where the black cover screws on.

Ran this by the local dealer, and they said GM part #12497479.

I'd rather save cost and hastle of returning the wrong part.

Anyone replace yet ?

Also, someone from the dealer said they thought the Av's are now coming w/ an anti-theft feature designed into the lug ?? I inspected mine and couldn't see it.

Thanks for any feedback.

I'd just go to a part store and get a quality set there. Probably save some bucks along the way...

just don't be like my sister and lose the key to your lugs. she blew out a tire on the free way, and couldn't find the key. ended up towing her back to my place so I could cut the thing off with a dremel.

I'd do what you suggest Chief, except I've experienced Spork's situation. Changed tires of a past car out at a reputable tire place, physically handed them the key, and then after changing the tires they lost the key.

If I stay w/ GM part, I understand GM garages have a universal key, so I'd still be ok.

Anyway, thanks guys. I'll post the right GM part # once I know what that is.
:)

Steeler you received good advice from the dealer, I went with part# 12497479 (a little over $30 with shipping) they are on and are the proper thing for the stock rims with the center piece that attaches with the fake-o plastic lugs screwing onto the real lug nuts.

cheapest mod to date! and nobody is getting my wheels now. I sleep peacefully if I have left my Av in an airport or train station parking lot somewhere.

that reminds me, Wind4power are you ever gonna tell us what the GM enhanced security system does?

Follow-up post:

GM part #12497479 is the way to go for 1500 Av's with the 17" wheel set; installed last week and works great.

Worked w/ Dal at VanDevere - best price & service there - can't beat that. ;D

Jackalanche,

Sorry for not getting back about the alarm, I found the papers on it and the only thing it does over the facory system is shock sensing. You would think it did more after the alarm tech screwed up the retained accessory power circuit. It looks like all it does is plug into the factory system. :p

thanks wind4p - not very enhanced. gm at its finest

byt he way, that painted cladding is without a doubt, the sh*t - and the color is something I have to agree with too! How's the paint holding up? any chips, cracks?

Just shy of 3000 miles...The paint on the cladding is holding up great. So far, So good. Still looks brand new.
