Does anyone make a bolt on turbo kit with down pipes and everything needed to put it in the 5.3L? Please let me know.

I don't know but sts makes a kit.  Don't think it is too easy of an install.  Why not go with a blower.  I have the radix and put it on myself.

the resident expert on turbos is gonna be Lord Aries.  He'll be able to point you in the right direction.

Slowhawks 5.3L engine w/ 216 cam and 60LB injectors put down 450hp /475tq

Dont forget tranny, and rear end mods.  It all adds up.  dont expect to run low 12's with a bolt on kit.

Word! Trick Performance has a really nice kit... I have a Livernois Motosports Turbo set up on my truck.

I personally think the STS set ups are crap, you can get a lot more info over on performancetrucks.net if you want to really dig deep into the Turbo world...

The Trick Performance set up looks really good. It says that they give you everything you need to the down pipe. The question I have is Can I drive it to a custom exhaust shop after that to get the rest of the exhaust finshed or do I have to tow it? Also Sould I put my truck on Super unleaded gas before I put in the turbo or can the turbo run on reguler?

You can drive it any where you want with an open downpipe, it will not hurt any thing... BU,t you will get spoiled by how great it sounds! The turbo muffles just enough exhaust that even with jus tthe downpipe its sounds awesome...

You will want a tank of 93 in there first for sure! Not sure if the install instruction will mention it or not but, Turbos have a procedure for driving them.

When you start the truck you really should let it idle for 30-60 seconds, this gets the oil flowing in the turbo housing and get the Turbine shaft nice lubed up (sure someone will make a joke about that)... Then after driving you should NEVER just kill the motor when you get where you are going! You need to monitor the Exhaust Temps and wait until the temps are below at least 700-800 degrees after parking, if you don't do this the Turbo will literly cook the oil in its housing into a sludge. And by the way, you will want to run Synthetic oil after installing a trubo...

This is easy and you get used to it really quick, under easy driving my EGT's don't exceed 800 anyways so, I can usualy just kill the motor when i pull into when I am going. With your truck being an Automatic Transmission, you can do the right thing and install a Turbo Timer. A turbo timer will keep the motor running for up to two minutes after you get out to cool the system down and then kill the motor for you! asicly its the revers of a remote start system.

This might be a less expensive option to get that boost pressure up...

I have used Synthetic oil sense I bought the truck so thats not a problem. Thanks for all your help. I'm sure I will have more questions as I get started on it. I'm not doing it untill the beging of November but I wanted to start doing my homework now so I atleast know what I want.

Don't forget all the other things you will need such as Transmission upgrades, Drive Shaft upgrade, more money to spend on gas from letting all those new ponys run alot. lol

Those are some sick gauges!!! Good find man!!! They sit nice and clean.

I've got 2 interceptor gauges located there.  As well as the boost essentials located in the A pillar

I am removing my turbos and would make you a sick deal!!! I've got a good $10K probably in the setup, and will let it go for a fraction of that.  Let me know and I'll remove them lickity-split and get 'em shipped!!!

I just got a new GM 5.3 installed. A couple months ago do I have to modify any internal parts to install a turbo or can I just install on a stock 5.3?

You may not get any response from any of the posters in this thread.

It's been years since any of them have logged into the forum.

Best of luck with your project.

You can bolt it right up to a stock 5.3L. Whipple, Magnuson, Edelbrock, etc., all make bolt on supercharger kits for the stock powerplant.
