I seem to notice that the first option GM puts on most Avs is the "Off Road Package", I'm not interested in this package because I don't plan on taking my AV off the road. I'm looking for an AV with leather/Bose but not much else. I tried GM Buy Power, can't seem to find it. Is there a better way to find a specific configuration?

Go to your dealer and they can do a dealer locator and it will find all the AV's in the 200 mile radius or 300 mile ect...

I did that. The problem was the guy said he was not supposed to look beyond 150 miles and there were some AVs he wouldn't even give me details about because the dealer wasn't someone they traded with.

humm that is odd her at the dealership I work for we look at every dealer even ones we have not traded with before and if they have the vehicle we call them and see if they would do a dealer trade some times they will say no but most of the time they say yes.

Yeah, I'd try a different dealer. I just bought my yellow 03 Z66 by going to a dealer and asking for a search because buypower doesn't cast a wide-enough net. The only problem with it was the weird way the listings come back - not much similarity to the window sticker, just option codes. I was also surprised there were so few that matched my critieria, but perhaps 'yellow Z66 WITH cladding...' is restrictive.

Anyway, I'd try a different dealer - no sense in getting stuck with politics.

I didn't have any trouble getting dealers to look within a certain radius and printing the available ones out for me. You didn't mention whether you wanted 4WD or 2WD (off-road package is an add-on to the 4WD base model that is generally considered a good value, so I'm guessing you want a 2WD). I've heard that 4WD's are more common in more wintery climates, but I'm still not sure why you are getting such resistance from dealer(s) to search for you.

Being from Florida, I certainly don't know about driving in winter weather, but my understanding is you may want to consider a locking differential in the 2WD that comes with the Z66 package.

There's a chance that I may have to move to Indy (company is based there) so if I do you can teach me how to drive there! ;) Good luck with your search.

Color preference? How far you want to travel.....I'll look for one. I usually have a fair amount of computer time available. Want a WBH...more and more of them available all the time?

You can always order one with exactly what you want.
Mine was built and delivered in 4 weeks!!!
Not bad for something exactly the way I wanted it....

Do you still get the special fianancing if you order one? What about other incintives ($4,000 cash back) are you still able to negotiate when special ordering, mor are you just at the dealers mercy?

I'm actually looking for a WBH Av with 4x4 and only the leather interior as an extra option. Every 4x4 seems to have the off road package, why would I want this if I'm not planning on going off road? Colors I'm hoping for are Arrival Blue or Victory Red. White is Ok. I'm wondering if this will be too hard to find.

I guess I'm willing to travel pretty far! That's a good idea to order one, I wonder if it's harder to get a good deal on a special order.

MC - welcome to the club - Purdue grad here - givent hat you are close to Indy you might want to try a different dealer - I have worked with some in CO and they have looked out over 900 miles to find an AV.

I can tell to it is going to be harder and harder to find a specific AV - the factory will shut down in about 5 weeks and when I was looking and it was hard to find something I was interested in - you might have to wait for an 04.

The 4x4 w/o off-road (Z71) might be a problem - I haven't seen many of those. Z71 seems more popular than the 'plain' 4x4. I think the price difference is less than $1k so maybe that'll open up your options more?

If you're not going off road, why even a 4x4?

Yes...that's my new thought. Anyone get a 2WD and regret it?

I wish I had the money to get everything I wanted (leather, bose,xm) but I have to also get things I don't really want (Convience pkg, Off-Road Pkg.) and they really jack up the price. And try to get that in a WBH, next to impossible. So sadly I'm giving up on the 4x4 option. It just seems so wrong to forgo this on an Av!

I think you would have to special order the combination you want, even in a 2WD version.

As you noted, Z71 is the first thing they put on, leather is probably second or third. There's dealer here in Beaverton that almost always has one or two base 4x4's in stock, but never w/leather or upgraded factory sound.

btw - I think the Z71 package will give you a bit more in resale, later on. so it's not necessarily a bad thing...

Leather and not much else is really tuff. Couldn't find a thing within 100 miles of Lafayette so just for grins looked locally. I found ONE here in Dark Charcoal that's a Z66 w/Leather and the only other extras is Molding/Flare pkg.(it is a WBH), and HD Trailer pkg. MSRP is $36,120. Found an Arrival Blue with a little more for $37,107, and a Victory Red with a little more yet for $38,082.
Good luck with your search. BTW, the Charcoal one is at the Dealer where I bought mine. Fly down and drive it home. ;D

I am from NY and I recently bought a 2WD Z66. Almost all the trucks around here are 4WD. Most of my friends think im nuts for getting a 2WD, but I do not regret it at all. I chose the 2WD because:
1) I have a 4x4 already (Chevy pickup)
2) AV is used for long family trips, so on-road comfort is more important than off-road ability.
3) 2WD has less moving parts to break down
4) 2WD is 2-3K cheaper than 4WD

I used the GM Buypower site to find my truck. I just kept expanding my search until a found a few that I liked in NJ and PA. I gave my dealer the VIN for the truck I wanted, and he was able to get it for me from a dealer in NJ within a couple of days.

I used zipcode.com to find zip codes all over the western US within the buypower site. This seems basic but it worked out well for me. My local dealer faxed over the site printout of an Av that I had already found. It was the one I was going to tell them to get for me. BUT he blocked out the other dealer info. I don't blame him but I used him anyway since we worked out a good deal already.

Widow sticker 37,990
Final price, after rebate, 31,500

On a 2002 with every option except moonroof and luggage rack

Love those bun toasters in the winter time

We were in the same but different spot when we wanted our AV.

Instead of being at a dealership, trying to get a salesperson to sell me something that was not on her lot, I stayed home and used the phone. I called up looking for AVs with only the stuff we wanted. ?

About 1/2 of them said they didn't have exactly what I wanted but come see what they did have that was close. ?

I said "No thanks." Then proceeded to tell them I will call all the dealerships within a 500 mile range to find the one I want.

Most would say that 500 miles is a long way to drive to buy a vehicle. ?I thought that 500 miles was not very far considering how long I would own the AV, How many miles I would put on it, and how little it would cost in gas vs the savings.... after that several offered to search the area I wanted to find the AV I was looking for.

I made sure to let them know that I wouldn't be waiting for thier call either and would kep looking. ?Needless to say. ?Our AV was found in less than a half day.

My understanding is that you get whatever incentive that is in place when you take delivery of the vehicle, and when ordering, in theory, the dealer has nothing invested in the truck so you should be able to get a good deal.

When I bought my AV I searched WA OR ID and western Montana using gmbuypower to find the one AV equipped like I wanted, lucky it was only 10 miles from my house.

Try going to different dealer's web sites in your area. A lot of them will list their new inventory on line and let you search through it.
