Awesome site!! I live in Southeastern, New York and I am in the market for buying a new Avalanche. If anyone knows of any good deals or assistance on the best price for one, please let me know. I am looking for a white 1500 Z71, leather or split leather/cloth, moonroof, luggage rack assist steps, etc
My email address is: Z7196@aol.com

Thanks for your help !!

Any dealer should be able to find one in your specified configuration. Your main issue is going to be the price negotiation. You should be able to get the 2002 Avs for invoice or less before the incentives are taken off (currently the rebate in the northeast is $2,500.00).

Before the end of the month, contact some dealers and tell them that you know that Avs are going for invoice or less without the rebate being applied. Ask them what they are willing to do if you make a purchase before the end of the month. If you work with several dealers, you will get a good deal. Make sure you check www.edmunds.com (or a similar site) for the invoice price so that you are on the same page with the dealer.

Happy hunting. :B:

I agree with Ric. Know your product. Go into the dealer and TELL them what you are willing to pay. That's just the way you buy a vehicle today. I hate all the homework

Hi all, I am new to all this. I too am looking hard in the Upstsate NY area. Do I get an '02 now? Or wait for the '03. With the help on this forum, I have decided on the 5.3L version with the 4:10s, 40-20-40 seats, roof rack (havent seen many of those.) I would love to get 'the beast', but alas, this is a big investment. I was torn on buy or not to buy the Z71 package, but for the money... Don't know what the locking rear diff. does for the truck. want the 4:10s for towing a pop-up.
I still have a couple questions if no one mind...
Is the 2500$ incentive gone for the '03?
Does the Chevy employee discount come off the invoice price?
How does the truck handle in heavy head or cross winds?
What is a Volant, and DRL?
Can the air conditioning be used while towing? (I could not use it with my Blazer ?
:C: :6: All answers will be appreciated, as I am already hooked on this site and don't even have one yet!

I haven't seen any incentive information released for the 2003s. ?

DRL is the daylight running lights ... we have lots of members who like to change the factory bulbs to Amber:

Amber DRL's

Here's a topic on the volant:

Volant air intake

It handled well (she is very heavy) when I took her to Padre Island and crossed the bridge with strong wind. ?How extreme are your conditions?

Lots are addicted to this site and are planning their mods for when they GET their AV too ?;D

Others will be by later to answer your other questions.

Hi guys, welcome to the board, AV's rule ;D

You can find everything you need here, including the now required amber DRL bulb specifications.

Sometimes the winds will hit 50 to 60 mph... I have to use 2 hands on the wheel in the Blazer.
I can answer that first hand. I live in the Buffalo area and I am familliar with driving in snow and high winds. I traded in my '99 S-10 four door/four wheel Blazer for the Av. In the Blazer, I would be blown all over the road, and you're right, you have to hang on tight.

With the Av, there is more surface area for the wind to grab you, but there is also much more weight. While I certainly can feel the wind, and you have to be alert at the wheel, it is not nearly as "exciting " as it could be in the Blazer. In this case, that's a good thing! (y)

I see no comparison between the two trucks, I think you'll like it.

<much snipped out>

Don't know what the locking rear diff. does for the truck.

If you drive in Upstate NY, you're driving in snow. You want the locking diff and the more aggressive tires from the Z-71 package.

My old 4 wheel blazer was hard to get stuck in the snow, but I did it a couple of times. In each case, only one front wheel and one back wheel would spin, the other two (which could have had traction) would just sit there. The smooth standard highway tires didn't help.

With the locking diff, if one wheel is on ice or in snow, and you're going less than 20 mph, the diff will lock up and the other wheel will get power. You won't be sitting there spinning one wheel per axle. (Of course, if you really bury it, you could end up spinning all four wheels, but then you're really stuck.) That, coupled with the more aggresive tires, and I haven't be stuck yet in the Av. (I'm sure it'll happen eventually, but it'll take a lot more snow than it took for the Blazer!)

Like I said, in snow, I think the Z-71 is worth it.

Z71,
GM price is about 16% off List, not including destination.
Look for one on lot longer than 90 days.Should be $1000 more off. +$500 for Avy.+$2500 rebate.Maybe more.
Dealers may not admit this though.
Good Luck.

Depending on how close you live to Connecticut, they are running a 60 months for 0%, and you can work on the final pricing after you do your homework. I have not heard much on the financing for the 2003's yet but it will probably not be 0% at the beginning. I live in Norwalk, CT and I will be hunting for a 2003 model hopefully soon.

I am drooling to get my hands on one!!!

This is my first post, and I must say a few words...

There is a great bunch of people on this site and hopefully I will get to meet some of them someday soon.

They have lots of great info (mods and such)and are always willing to help you out if they can.

I have been lurking for a little while (1 month)and if there is anything that I can add to the group, I will post again.

Great site!!!

Keep up the great work!!

I have a dealer friend in my neighborhood, and I have asked that as soon as a 2003 comes in, for him to bring it by and I will test it out. ;) Tried the 2002, really cool!!! I will snap some pictures of the 2003 as soon as I can and will post them up.

Time to start a chapter in this area!! Any takers??

Good luck

If you are still looing to buy an Av ther are plenty of NY and NJ dealers that have loaded ones

Get the dealer to show you the invoice.. If you work for GM, you get the GMS Price........it is typically about $5000 to $600 below sticker...and yes, you get the reabate on top of that so savings can be $7 -$8M.
GO FOR IT !!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I just finished a 24 hour Avalanche test drive and I am sold...I will be buying one. What I don't know is when. I had originally planned to buy a new truck next Spring, but the $4000 incentive plus the $500 24 hour test drive incentive is hard to ignore. I have been lurking here for awhile and also see that color matching hardware may be offered for the '04s and I like that idea. I have two questions that I would like opinions on (I realize no one knows for sure)...1st, Do you think the color matching hardware will be available on '04s and 2nd, based on history (I have no idea regarding GM incentives), do you think the $4000+ incentives will continue past June 2nd...which would allow me awhile longer to ponder? Thanks for any opinions/ideas.

I don't think the colour matching cladding will be available for the 04... The incentives will probably still be there after Jun 2....
As you already know, some of the 03 colours disappear in 04... So if you like the 03... get one before its gone.... The only advantages to the 04 that I know is that there are some new colours.... you get a tire pressure monitoring system ( will increase cost of AV ) and if you want the DVD and Sunroof, you will be able to get it....

I'd get the 03......
my $0.02

incentives continue past June 2? Likely. Continue though next Spring? Well, if I had a crystal ball like that, I should change my line of work ASAP ;D

I wanted an '02, was going to have to wait until next year for an '03 or '04, and ended up being able to purchase an '03 now. I'm glad I have the '03 vs. the '02. Will '04's be better? There will always be something better. If you like it so much and have the means to buy now, why wait for the unknown?

Good luck.

I think it's best to get why the gettin is good!!!

Look at the price difference between 02 and 03. There is no telling what will happen with the 04's. If money is not an issue, then you could wait, but right now it's a pretty good deal.
The incentive will likely stay. If not, it will disapear and then return late in the year when the 04's come out. Depending on the price difference you may well be paying what is now a full price for an 03 without incentives for an 04 with incentives. Did that make sense? After they jack up the price again this year you may find yourself still paying high $30's.(Kinda like an 03 with no incentives) At least right now you can get in in the low $30's and pushing the 20's for a base model and mid $30's for a loaded AV. Don't forget that new tax write off for Av's either. If you have a small business you are set.

My .02

CT :B:

With the price going up at least $150 every 3 months and the current incentives.....unless you want that new Sport Red on the '04  :-* :-* I'd say go for it.

Is waiting worth the woulda', shoulda', coulda's? Every day you wait is one more day without the enjoyment of having an AV....

I used to lurk here a while back, and posted the odd comment under "mtnbkr". I can't seem to get that name back. Maybe someone took it after I left.

Anyway, I was about to become the owner of a loaded 03 black 2500 in December when everything fell off the rails with the dealer (a long story). It was a factory order, but they gave me my deposit back.

I'm back in the market, but likely for a 1500. I see now that there is a WBH option, and yellow has entered the scene.

My new (and much improved) dealer is really pushing the attached on me. It's a good deal financially. What do you guys think about the totally naked look (and I mean totally naked - not a lot of trim to be found anywhere). I kind of like it, and my wife loves it. I think that the door dings will kill me though.

Anyway, any comments (good or bad) would be appreciated.

Looks good but the door trim would look good to and protect the doors. Have the dealer throw them in at no charge.

I have two cladded AV's BUT WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT... I'd Look GOOD in that arrival blue AV.

If you like it... go for it. If you have reservations... wait for the one you want. If it's a vehicle you need to drive for a while, get the one you want.

that's my 02
