Hello,
I am a new member and I was looking through the forums but could not find anything addressing the same issue I am experiencing.
I just bought a 2005 Avalanche LT Z71 about a month ago and the last couple weeks I have had this very random thing happen that I have never heard before in any vehicle.
It is very loud and I can feel it on my left foot. I cannot recreate it and speed or turning doesn't seem like it matters. It is not a constant noise. It may happen for 5 seconds then stop, come back a minute later for a few seconds, then may not happen for several days. Sometimes it will happen on and off for a couple minutes. The frequency is in relation to the speed.
I have uploaded a video on YouTube where I was able to capture the sound.

Could this be something to do with the ABS pump? I am just thinking that because the thumping I feel seems like it comes from that general location.
Please help. This is very concerning to me. I just bought what I thought was a nice Avalanche that ran perfectly and then this happens weeks after I buy it.
Thank you!!
Nick

did not hear anything other then squeaking and wind noise.

Does it happen when you press brake? if not then I think it would not be ABS pump.

Could be body mount?

Sounds like u joint issues. I would go under and shake the rear and front drive shafts and look for any play. Also look for any busted caps. Try using a pry bar or large screwdriver and wedge it between the U-joint and shaft and see if you can notice any play.

I have the same noise by the description couldn't really hear anything on the video. It's primarily when turning but I've just had my u-joints replaced. What an absolute conundrum and frustration along with it!!

If you have 4 wheel drive I would inspect the front axel

Suspension all replaced...im sorry is axel separate from suspension?

American Tire Depot aligned my truck with the ball joint on the driver side almost out of its socket.. aren't they supposed to check that kind of thing I have the ball joint replace and it still makes that noise when turning.

Sorry for the delay, I would look for a shop that specializes in alignments and front end. Here is California we have a handful of them such as Bear Wheel and Frame and a fewer old school shops.
