LS intake manifold help

Hey guys! I'm looking to upgrade the Avy again, tax returns and all  (y)

I'm looking to upgrade the intake manifold to an LS6 or an LS1 but I haven't found anything online that gives me a good answer as to which would be better?

I'm a student at UTI now so i'll have access to a shop to install it, but I just have no idea what I'll need to buy for a successful swap please any help would be amazing!

 
I know that the 07-13 have the cathedral intake ports required for the intake swap but I am unsure of the 02-06. Somebody else may have to chime in for that one.
 
Now BE careful here you have a 6000 lb. truck. I do not see any other mods to the engine or rear gears, other than the exhaust.
The truck manifold is made with short runner designed for the torque need to get them moving.  Lighter cars use a different runner design, also for hood clearance.  So do your homework. There is nothing more frustrating than paying and installing performance parts and going backwards.

You've got that backwards JVZL1, long intake runners make torque at lower RPM's, short runners move the torque up in the RPM range. That's why a duel plane usually make more low end than a single plane manifold.

Since hood clearance is not a problem on AV's the manifold below might be a little much for a stock motor, it will make more torque at a lower RPM than a short runner low profile manifold made to fit under the hood of a Corvette or Camaro.. Very pricy, it's just a matter of how much you are willing to spend for a few ponies..

Thank you so much for the information guys!  (y) but now I'm wondering, is this an engine mod worth doing? Also, are LS1&6 intakes direct bolt ons? I'm going to be ordering some long tube headers in the near future to give me just a little more power from the exhaust side, I dont wanna dive into the internals yet but am interested in adding a Z06 cam sometime down the line
 
Again, it's up to you on how much your willing to spend to pick up a few horsepower. They advertise that will manifold make 25 HP on a 6.0L, on a 5.3L it will probably make a little less. With long tube headers and that manifold will probably pick up 40 - 50 HP and it will cost you somewhere around $2,000 -$2,500 by the time your done including gaskets, bolts, exhaust work etc. Sounds like you can work on your own so that will save a lot in the long run.

To most of us on this forum it's worth every penny we spend on what we like and want from our vehicles whether it's more power, handling, bling or whatever your into.. So let the modding begin and good luck...

That FAST truck manifold is a very nice piece.  Putting an LS1 or LS6 manifold on is actually going backwards in performance as the car manifolds' designs are compromised due to needing to be low for hood clearance.

As for the Z06 cam, that will give you better performance but I would and have gone bigger than the Z06.
 
I know for me, I want to do the FAST 102 mm intake, the 102 big mouth manifold, comp cam, new lifters, valve spring kit, pushrods, roller rockers, CAI, new injectors, headers, y pipe, and do a port and polish on the heads and then do a stall converter and a dyno tune. I know I would need lower gears but I plan on doing it after I do my axle swaps anyway which will include a dana 60 front, coil spring suspension, 4 link, manual transfer case, 14 bolt FF rear, coil springs, 4 link, and all 4.10 gears. So I am content that the setup I mentioned will give me good power in my truck.

Thanks Randy for the correction on the manifolds. I new you performance guys would show up. Just did not want him spending money and not getting what he was expecting. .
 
No problem... Long runners help keep the velocity at low engine speeds just like exhaust you can tune the intake to make power at different RPM levels. One of the best was on the early 90's Corvette ZR1's LT5 32 valve motors, they had two throttle blades/runners per cylinder and the first was used at low RPM and the second opened up at higher RPM and made for a nice torque curve. With a little porting the 90-92's you could pick up 35-40 HP and the 93-95's you could get about 20HP.

So just to make sure Im reading this right, if i put an LS1 or 6 intake on my 5.3 I'd lose power because they're compromised to make up for lack of space because they were made for a car right?
 
Yes that is correct, you probably loose low end power.
