Made it Home from the Nationals

The ones having ABS light issues did y'all use a lot of brake on your run up and down the mountain on the Parkway? I've always dropped to 2nd gear coming off the mountain and never had any brakes heat up.

Mine has been coming on and off for a few weeks now....

But it is funny that you say that...I was saying to CJ Saturday morning that I thought you must have been down shifting on some of those hills and curves because you were barely on the brakes and I felt like I was on them the whole time...lol

I was in 2nd at start of top of mountain and all the way to the last straight at the bottom. Only hit brakes a couple times. That Hooker Aero-chamber muffler will talk to you with the right amount of back pressure. I can usually come off the mountain above Gatlinburg and only bump the brakes a couple times if no one is in front of me and still keep speed limit.

Sounds like I'm not the only one who will be making repairs post g2g... Mine developed a horrible rattle and knock the in the driver front wheel area that you can feel in the floor board while down this weekend. Luckily made it home with no severe known problems, so that noise has now become top priority this week...

And I meant to ask you about them, because I wasn't sure if you had brought them or not...lol
Yeah, please let me know what you would like to ship them.

Hmm...I am mechanically inclined enough to do something myself, but unless I have done it before, I am a complete newbie...
Could it be in the rear?  And how difficult is it to change out?
On a z66 no. It's the front for sure. And there are tons of threads out there of changing them. It's not hard. I've done it a few times but also had the shop do it the time I broke down.
What ever you do don't skimp on the parts when it comes to the hubs!!
Maybe if we get a good modding gtg going we can do it in Sept if it makes it that long.

We had a drivers side front hub go out in March at a GTG and 02Z71 fixed it for us at the State Park. The ABS light came on about 3 hours from home yesterday  and once we got 10 mintutes from home we heard a familiar sound and WVAV said was probably  the passenger side front hub going out.

I've had a suspicion of that for a while as I had noticed a bit of a "rubbing" noise coming from the front.
I had the front hubs checked a few weeks ago and the shop said they were fine, and had no slop.
Also, the noise didn't change as you steer left/right.

I stopped on the way home to check the front wheels.
They were not excessively hot, but the passenger side had an odor of hot grease.

I will get the hubs replaced before I take any more trips.

Yes!!!  The front hubs are going out. Won't be long either if they are squealing before if fails and the caliber locks down. Trust me even at a low speed like 10mph it will put a flat spot on the tire. I was on the way to get the hubs once when one of mine went out.

Unfortunately I too came home with all most everything I was suppose to give to others.
At least joeairforce got his bedpanelbag

That's because I sought you out to make sure I did.  >:D :B:

Not home yet, was in Roanoke VA last night, and Harrisburg PA tonight. Taking a little slower trip back due to an ankle issue. Throughout the GTG, I had pain and swelling in my ankle, and just kept pushing it, cause I wanted to be with everyone. That seemed to aggravate the injury, and so Sat night I had to go in early, cause I could barely walk, my ankle swelled the size of a softball. It went down Sun, but after going on the titanic tour (which was very cool) I had pretty severe pain for my 4hr ride to Roanoke. Today it was much of the same, so hopefully can get it xrayed when I get back tomorrow.

Now despite my injury, I had a great time seeing old friends and meeting new ones, and I did have a good time, with the one exception of almost burning my brakes up, but big thanks to Hugs for staying with me while they cooled. (y)

I sure hope you get to feeling better James. It was nice meeting you and that beast you drive!

Man James I image it's pretty hard driving with a hurting ankle.

It's my left ankle that's injured, so I guess at least it's not my right ankle. But it still gets pretty painful.

Finally made it back home, 1700+ miles. It was a fun time, and as always was too short.

Good you made it, Hope the foot is ok and nothing serious.  R.  (y)

We made it home on Sunday afternoon with no problems.
I would like to thank Ian and his helpers for a VERY GOOD and well thought out week-end.
I would also like to thank those that made Tana and myself welcomed into your family.
I will stay in touch through the forum and  will try to participate in activities in my local area.
We really enjoyed  ourselves and had a good time, thanks to all.

Ken L. and Tana

Finally got around to checking my front hubs today.
Driver side seems OK, no slop.
Passenger side, lots of slop.
Sure am glad we made it home OK.
Will replace both hubs this week.

Scary to think of interstate driving with how sloppy that wheel can be.......I got the ABS light on by '02 and the mechanic show me the problem. I told him that I just finished a trip and was driving 70 to 75 mph for hundreds of miles. I never heard on the wheel coming off but mine was very loose!

2400 miles this year without a mishap. .... well except for the A/C leak which is not major. THis is one dependable vehicle. I wouldn't even think of attempting this trip in my Audi.

Been too busy to check on the forum since the gtg until today.  We just back last night from a second trip to Gatlinburg.

YOu went back Greg?
Did you lose something important that you had to go back?
Did you enjoy it so much you went back?

We've got the condo we were staying at listed for sale and had some more things we wanted to do to it to help it sell.  Touched up paint on the walls, deep cleaning, added some pictures on the walls, moved some of the others around, replaced an old tv with a flat screen, repaired some lamps, etc, etc.

We've fixed the place up so much it's going to be hard to let it go...

Wish I could have made it guys, sounds like it was a blast.
We missed you man.  I ended up being the sole representative of the yellow av nation.

LOL frito. I got home and realized that half the things I planned to do and photo ops I wanted to take, I forgot about with all the activity going on.
I was really hoping to get a picture with your avalanche and mine side by side as the Yellow and the Sunset orange are two colors that are harder to find.
Maybe next year...if the stars align and we are all there.

Oh, that would have been cool.  (y)
