Anyone here installed the Mag/Radix setup?
Took the plunge and ordered one--should be here in a week. I have Johan @ Diablosprot cooking up a special recipe for the Predator. Anyone know of any installation/setup issues?

Wish I could help ya kodiakz, ive got the Whipple.., but I was browzing the Truck mags at the local book store.., and if im not mistaken I think it was Trucking magazine had a complete Install article on the Magnacharger install with about 4 pages of photos to..., step by step on the 5.3.., search the Truck mags at your local store you should find it.......

Butch.

Thank you sir!! Will head over to the 7/11 to look (for some reason, they always have massive amounts of truck mags along side the mags with hotties on the covers >:D)

Question:
With a supercharger installed, do I need to beef-up the trany or rear end (or anything else)?
I would love to get the Radix system, but not if I have to spend mucho $$$ of other upgrades.
Thanks.

Rob

Hi PFF,

I'm still running the stock drive train. I try to avoid any kind of shock loading to keep things in one piece. Tranny temp has never been an issue.

Don't lay "J" strips and you should be ok.

Redshift,

Gotta ask do you have the 4.10 or 3.73 differentials?

Joe

Who's scheming on how to make a Radix fit into his budget!

Thanks, good to know since with all the HP your putting out its nice to know I won't have to replace the diffs if I get a S/C. (y)

Of course I might mod it someday anyway... >:D

INteresting...... I am undecided next summer as to get the same supercharger (Magnuson Radix) OR a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix with Competition group.... hmmmm..... ???
Yak you mean you really have to about think which one to do  wowowowow >:D

Thanks Agent MAxwell. That is a nice little article/set of instructions. Install looks pretty easy actually. I wish they would just include a high output fuel pump that would replace the stock one. I installed a Vortech setup on my '96 Yukon and the only thing I had problems with was the Trex fuel pump killing the stock as it literally pulled fuel through the oem one killing it.

No Worries!! (y) Agent Maxwell is also heavily looking at the Magnuson Setup. Trust me it is taking all of my control not to order one Right Now!!!!! :E: :E: :E: :E:

No doubt!!! I fought it for weeks (having bought a used whipple setup that wouldn't work on the '03's didn't help) before I lost control and ordered. I even felt guilty even though it will be a write off. I suppose that guilt will quickly turn to pure joy as I take the first spin with a couple new ponies and a whole bunch of their friends!!! >:D >:D

I've got a fuel pressure gauge so I could keep an eye on the pressure feeding the oversize injectors that come with a supercharger. I have not seen a fuel pressure problem on the Avalanche. The pressure actually increases as I push the throttle.

Redshift, did you add an aux fuel pump with your setup? Using a beefy pump to pull fuel through a not so beefy stock pump never has made sense to me. It would seem to me anyway that the oem pump just becomes a hindrance at that point.

Hi Kod,

I'm just using the stock fuel pump. It doesn't seem to have any problem keeping the injectors supplied.

I had to install the Walbo 255 lb/hr intank pump on my set up, because of the Nitrous on top of the blower.., it was a lot of work to install.., had to drop the fuel tank and modify the stock pumps plastic sump holder to fit the Walbro pump in it and make it work right... It will support up to 550 rwhp though.., and with the Nitrous on top of the blower.... I wasn't going to take any chances on it Leaning out.., a booster pump was to iffy with the Nitrous.., and I have heard of them causing the stock intank pump to Fail..., but not right away, usually after 30 to 50K miles......

On a good side note though.., the Tuner who's shop I use to Dyno at.., has told me that He's seen the stock intank pump on these late model trucks be capable of handling up to 380 rwhp.., but there a little iffy at that point.., so you need to go with a booster pump, or an MSD Boost-a-pump..., or bite the bone and install a Walbro HP intank pump.........

Butch.

Excellent, excellent. More good info!! Good to know the stocker is almost upto the task without the booster. Thanks Butch.

I'm working on an intercooler for my Kenne Bell system. When I get that set up I may need more fuel to keep up with the extra boost I'll run. KB sells a Boost-a-pump that regulates the voltage to the stock pump. I'm thinking of trying that before I replace the pump. Anyone have any experience with Boost-a-pumps?

A "J" strip everyone once in awhile is ok. It helps to burn off any loose rubber :)

The stock pump will be fine. I have a customer that picked up this kit along with a mild head/cam package. He's using it on his 4.8 Silverado. So far the truck has made 389hp/375tq at the rear wheels.

A couple of insights on my end - not AV specific though ..

I pushed a Miata to over 300 rwhp and piggy backed a Pierburg pump to the gas tank ... make sure that whatever pump you get, that it is not just high pressure but high volume ... For some reason I thought the Walbro was the former ... but I must be mistaken - as it was noted as a 255 l/hr pump.

Also - fuel rails can be an issue at higher flow - as they are not usually designed for an extra 40% flow needed for the extra hp.

In my programmable ECU tuning days - I just increased the injector pulse width ... I take it that is not an option for the Radix ... although ECU's like this are usually not CARB.

Tom ( Tbyrne ) - I have called your tech hot line a few times, wanting to talk to your tech staff about matching headers to the Radixx, exhaust, how it does fuel management and how the Eaton powertrain warranty co-lives with a GM driveline ( and extended warranty ). No return calls, although the very nice woman said she would prod the guys. You must be busy
