Yes, that's true. While he's supposed to be working, instead our mailman took 10 minutes of his and ours to criticize our AV.

He had a couple of curiosity questions like everybody does but the rest was pretty negative :(.

He said that he hates the cladding and that it's ugly. Then he said it's too expensive and that everything that seems good is between $30,000-40,000. Finally, it's too much of a gas guzzler. These are the standouts.

My dad was trying to be as polite as he could. He seemed to have done a good job of defending the AV.

That mailman had a job to do so he should have just kept on going with his own business.

you know I really hate that. I try to be nice all the time and really show how nice our AV is even to my customers who gives the AV a negative when they have not even took the time to look inside. would not even dare to drive it but yet so much negative remarks on all AV.

But it's all good. We know what the AV can do for us and we know what it's all about.

just my 2 c.

>:D

Some folks are completely clueless as well as ill-mannered!

He has no class - like a neighbor of mine who walked by drunk one night when I was working on the AV and had to stop and share his comments. None were positive.

I just told him that is why the car companies make so many different vehicles so everyone can be happy. No need to defend the AV to someone who walked up with their mind already closed. :)

I bet no dogs bite your mailman, he has no taste.

You know, some people are just like that. :8:

Ah well. I don't care at all. Let them swear at it. The Av is patient and won't get angry. Their loss. ;)

Maybe if they took the mail men out of those little funny trucks, and put them back to walking the mail route, they would have less time to make ugly comments about your AV. They might even be able to get the mail in the right box for a change. Or is that asking too much of the U.S. Mail service.

A day doesn't go by that I don't get a neighbors mail or them mine. If you leave a garbage can too close to the mailbox, for the carrier to get his truck up to it, you get no mail at all.

should have thrown him in the back of the Av...and dared him to try and deliver the mail that way..... :B: ;D

My delivery guy from the Italian Restaurant here, rings my bell and the first thing he say is "Why did you by that F______N ugly truck!!!" I said, "You know, you do work for tips". Now he thinks the truck is better with the wheels.

I don't care what people say negative. The truck serves my purpose both business and personal.

Jewv...you should have told him it looks a lot better from the front coming at you doing like 40...wait and see.... ;D :B:

LOL

ColoradoAV do you have a dog you need to get a Pit Bull

We do have a dog, but being a bassett, there isn't quite that intimidation factor >:D.

I wasn't expecting this many responses to this thread. This is great .

We were unloading A LOT of wood from the back of the AV and I think the mailman became jealous because the Av carried so much wood and yet it was all nicely covered and not exposed to the elements >:D!

I have a picture of my AV printed out and taped to the top of my computer monitor at work. One day a couple of deputies from the Sheriff's Dept. (being the Gov't employee that I am) came in and looks at it and says "I don't get that thing at all, if you want a truck, get a truck I say!".

Needless to say I looked up at him and chuckled, wasn't going to debate with someone that had a badge and a gun and the right to arrest me! (But at least I know, the AV still rocks! ;D )

>:D

Consider how much you pain for the advise and treat it with equal value.

I have a Rottie and a Great Pyrnesse. DThey keep vistis, at least from unwanted folks to a minimum ;D

I'd try to make friends with the mailman (letter carrier). Make him comfortable, offer him a jack and coke (many letter carriers drink). :D The bottom line. Tell him that you wish that you wish that you could drive around in a little white truck and wear a cute little white pith hat.
Be Nice to him. You never know if he has a gun. He could Go Postal on you. :7:

The AV does seem to be one of the "polarizing" objects. I rarely meet anyone who does not have a strong opinion about it, although 90% are very positive. The only people who seem to have much of a problem are owners of other brand trucks.

I get very few negative comments -- at least to my face. Mostly they're positive, or silence. I guess most of the people I run into are relatively mannered -- I take their silence as a "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything" kind of thing. :6:

I did get a couple of comments from the mailman: generally short comments like "nice truck." One day he was walking up while I was pulling into the garage. As I walked out of the garage, he had just reached the house, and said "Wow, tight squeeze. That just barely fits!" That's probably the most he's ever said to me at one time.

I get a lot of positive comments from the landscaping crew. >:D

I traded in a 2001 Victory Red Silverado ... It was a 1500 Z-71 Extra-Cab with the Sportside Bed ... It had all the trimmings:

Red TopDeck Fiberglass Lid, Tahoe Chrome Grille, 2002 GMC Denali wheels with Michelin Cross Terrains, a spare set of oem wheels with Michelin A/T's , Custom 3" Cat-back with polished aluminum Mecham tip, K&N Cold Air, HPP3, Tint all around, and US Flag Z-71 decals over the wheel wells ... Among other things ... Oh yeah, a Wilson 1000 roof mount and Sideband radio running over 500 watts ... hehe

Here's how it went:

Got crap from most at work for buying a stepside Silverado, got crap for putting a 62" whip on a pretty truck, got crap for not getting a SnugLid cover, and got a severe amount of crap for trading it on the AV!

After I got the AV, the girls at my wife's work dogged it, and I found out she drives a 2000 Tahoe Limited 2WD that she WON FOR FREE in a raffle ... whine, whine, whine ... She says her beautiful black FREE Tahoe Limited is a piece of crap, and they already did front brakes at 15,000 miles ... She says she's gonna trade it in for a new Toyota Highlander ... WAAAAAA!

I tell her that the guide pins on the calipers on the old body Chevys need to be greased and cleaned or they will eat the inside pad on frt brakes, and I also tell her that the stupid Highlander has a Uni-Body construction, and is not a real truck... I knocked her venerable Toyota thinking in the dirt... And when I told her that most Toyotas are now either 70% built here and / or parts produced in Mexico, she really got mad.... "Oh, you mean they're not Japanese anymore?" "Then I should probably get a Santa Fe.." ?Nice ... 11H realizes the argument is futile ... The other night at wife's X-Mas party, her overbearing husband after the party lines up with me in their Toyota RAV-4, and acts like he's gonna get in front of me in the AV ... Ha ... Ya right ... Light turns green, and he got my new Dynomax cat-back wrapped around his head as his little ricer labored for the crosswalk in fear ... We get to the next light after we do 0 to 50, and he's many many bus lengths back, and I roll down the window, and say, "Hey bro, if you had that 350 Tahoe tonight, you might have had a chance!" Simultaneously blowing his doors off on the freeway on-ramp... He's the kind of guy who smokes the little faggy brown cigarrettes, and braggs about his Harley... What an all american... Driving/Bragging about Toyotas, and driving Harleys ...

To end this pointless story, the hell with the people "who just don't know." And praise to those with an open mind who take the time to see just what it is that we love so dear about the AV ...

Sometimes, I just want to put a decal in the back window that says, " IF YOU ARE IGNORANT, PLEASE CONTINUE YOUR FUTILE EXISTENCE AWAY FROM THE PATH OF ME AND BROTHER AVALANCHE ... "

Oh, BTW, the Red Silverado I mention in the beginning of this thread was so ugly, it hit the Chevy lot on a Saturday on it's own little round Concrete pedestal, and sold by Sunday ... I guess it was an ugly peice of crap... And oh ya, they got full sticker of over $23,000 for it... That's when they were running $2500 rebates on the new 2002 trucks... I guess someone was interested in buying my used trade over a brand new truck...

Not only are his comments in poor taste :7:, you now know why stamps cost so much and the mail is late. :8: I have had my Av for 4 months now and have not had a negative comment yet.

Don't sweat it...

Just let the mailman and his '86 Plymouth Reliant enjoy themselves... they deserve each other. >:D

For what its worth...
my mailman drives an old "LUV" -
he doesn't even look at me since the AV arrived!
