Memorial Day Beach GTG - Cookout

Hey ya'll, I'm trying to plan a GTG for Memorial Day weekend and I need a little feedback from you before I start. I know this is a little short noticed, but sometimes that's the best way.

I would like to have it on Sat. 29th. and everyone meeting around 10:00 a.m. at the Gate gas station on SR-16 just off I-95. From there we will all caravan over to the beach and really make a showing of our AV's.

Also, I would like to make this a Cookout, so I would like to know besides me can bring a portable grill for Burgers and dogs. With that said, this will have to be a BYOF&D (bring your own food and drinks)....I'll be able to bring a grill, but if anyone else has one that would help too....So let me know!!!

We had a small GTG for Sjudson sometime back and those who made it had a great time...Except for maybe Hoss and a few others (getting stuck)..Sorry Bro >:D. http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php?board=179;action=display;threadid=18662

Anyway, I like to have it at Valano Beach in St. Augustine on either of the day's aforementioned. There is an area toward the back called Purpose Point. There you'll find great surf, good surf fishing, soft sand for the Z-71's and a view of the backside of the Fort and St. Augustine.

It costs $5.00 per vehicle to enter because it's a State Run Beach

Please let me know if you all would be interested. I'll provide maps to all as soon as I get a better idea who will be coming.

Guys,we had a great time at this in January. It would be great if we could get even more to attend. We drew quite a crowd of lookers last time.A very nice beach to go to (y)

Saturday mo better!! BYOF is not a problem, if a few bring some side dishes it would really help out. Mama Jo doesn't mind making something else to bring along. I have a couple of coolers and don't mind dragging them up for drinks and stuff.

assuming that it's legal to cook out (make fire) on beach?

Hoss.....your, "pull Hoss out of the sand", i.e. the Real Hoss will be about 5000 miles >:D away. --- take a shovel ;), ONE that fits your hands :eek: or (y) give Momma Jo the keys and avoid those nasty :C: blisters.

We know Hoss is trying his best to figure flatland offroading, i.e. Beach Sand, but what about Hoss in Snow on Memorial Day?

sjudson tells me we can expect sunrise on May 31st. at 3:34am and sunset would be June 1st. at 12:03am.

Gobot, er, Hangman...are you planning to fish? I love to fish, but believe it or not this native Florifian has never surf fished. You gonna show me how?

Dick, er, I mean Richard...ah, I, mean Rich...Yes, I plan on fishing and sure, I'll show you. It's a little hard to believe that a native such as yourself has not yet surf fished....It's all good!!!

If you have any fishing tackle I suggest you bring it....That goes for anyone else who plans on fishing.

I do have a few rods, but I know my kids will want to fish as well, so I might not have enough for everyone. I will bring a cast net so we can get live bait right off the shore line to attract our catch a little easier.

From Porpose Point, you can catch just about anything. That includes; Spanish Mackeral, Flounder, Sea Bass, Permits (Pompano), Sting Ray, Whiting, Blue Runners, Tarpon (only if your lucky) and many others.

I don't have one of those 12 foot surf rods...best I got is a semi-heavy (30#) baitcast setup that I use for light trolling / casting at dolphin, cobia / fishing in the port, etc. It'll have to work.

I need some of those pyramid sinkers to hold in the sand, right? I'll have to read up on surf rigs.
