I always thought that Pinto wagon with the porthole window was pretty cool.

I always wanted to put a built Pontiac into one of those parking meter reading little pickup truck thingys. I think they are electric to start with. I was going to use a 73 Olds Toronado transaxle and put everything in the back. That would be a wheelie machine!!!

You think I'm kidding, right?I had a friend with a 454cid in a 1972 Honda CVCC which origanal ran witha 2 stroke MC engine, and that thing would Gooooo!!!

DarkWolf,
I've actually just been researching the feasibility of a similar project myself. Can you tell me what would be involved in putting those engines in a Geo Metro? Did you find some that would bolt in without too much trouble? Have you concluded that those engines are what would work the best?

Sorry I can't really offer you any help, I was just hoping you might have some knowledge you could share with me. I haven't really had much success so far in my search for info on this project.

Thanks!

I owned a swift and I don't think it can handle much power. I think at the most you can do a Sidekick engine swap(1.3 to an 1.8L) but the tranny is the weak link(I had to replaced the tranny once with my low output 4banger not the GT model). Anything else you would have to do a custom engine cradle but the frame is weak so there is alot of flex.

Check out http://www.puresuzuki.com/suzukimain.htm as they use to have Swift hop-up parts but it appears they have a dead link now on their homepage.
Parts here too: http://www.hawksuzukiparts.com/

Some Swifts who race in the pinto class:

Jay Leno put a v8 in the rear of a Ford Fiesta so anything is possble.

I think there is a reason I don't drive a Swift anymore but a AV now. I don't miss those 50MPG days at all in that death trap. :) Would be fun to race one though.

Good Luck,
Con

When I was doing SCCA Solo in from 1989 to 1991 one of the premire Honda tuners got a sponsorship from Suzuki that gave him a couple of Swifts and all the dollars he wanted to modify for modified class. At the time the Honda Civics and Acura Integras dominated their respective classes. About half-way through the season he gave Suzuki back their cars and walked away from the deal and went back to the Hondas. He just couldn't tweak them to handle the power and the suspensions were not very modifiable. They did not perform well at Solo.

I was in "slow stock" (H Stock) with my Ford Probe which utterly dominated the class. The car in hindsight was probably classified too low, and should have been in E Stock, where it probably would have been eaten alive. The Ford Probe Turbo and V-6 models were G Stock and did moderately well.

I don't think I would waste the time/money on the Metro project, but that's all IMHO...

When I was in high school, there was a guy that was a regular at the service station where I worked that had dropped a BUILT Chevy 327 and a Turbo 350 into a Triumph TR6. You wanna talk about something that would GOOOOOOO! >:D >:D >:D >:D

My uncle had a Vega GT with a 350, when the 4 brrl opened up it felt like you were going airborn. We used to take a friend's Pinto out on frozen lakes and laugh at Jeep CJs getting stuck in the snow. One time we stuck the Pinto, 4 of us climbed out, picked it up and moved it over, jumped in and drove off. One other advantage, if it broke thru the ice, bail out and run, it's just a Pinto. :D I wouldn't want to tackle putting a V-8 in a Metro, I guess if I had alot of time.

Ok I'm nuck'n futs! I bought a Metro for $200.00 off ebay here in Miami and towed it home.I started stripping it and it's in good shape.I can sell the parts I stripped off of it to pay for the car! Now do I make a race car with a V-6, or do I convert the whole thing into a 2wheel trailer for my AVY?
