hey guys/gals.  My first post......
I have a 2002 with 40k miles.  Within the last month or two it has developed some bad groaning and creaking noises from the midgate area.  When I go around corners or over a rough road, it moans like an old man.  Hugely annoying.

Has anyone had this also and made it go away?

Are you sure it is closed all the way?

cross bar and nidgate have a double latch...

open tailgate..

then open midgate with window out...

Slam shut midgate...

put window back in...

Open midgate again..

Slam shut again...

Then close tailgate

Had a very annnoying noise from the back midgate area when I first got my AV. I thought it sounded like the midgate creaking when hitting a sharp bump at speed. Sprayed the area with silicone with no luck. I then took out the rear window and lubed the seal and window trim again with silicone. Less noise but still had some noise on sharp bumps. I removed the rear window again and it seemed that the noise was coming from the latches where they contact the defroster metal. Used a thin coating of dielectric grease on these metal tabs and solved that elusive noise. So check those areas to see if those are your trouble spots.

good catch rlc323 that's where my creak is coming from too.

good info..

RLC,
well I think it was the electrical contacts.......I put some dielectric grease on them and now about 95% of the noise is gone.

good work!
