In NJ we go lots of rain last night, i got into the truck this morning to see a puddle of watter in the drivers side rear passenger area (under the floor mat) :8: :E:. I have never had problems with leaking in this truck yet, so it pissed me off a bit. I drove to work and took some time to investigate.
However, when i tried to open the midgate to see the seal it wouldnt open??? :E: :8: Now I got really pissed off (it was still raining, hard, and cold out) I dont know what to do, but I am sure that it is the reason why the water got in... do you think it has to do with the realesse tab for when the window is taken out?

please help, its still raining and still leaking?? :E: :D: :8:

Take the window out, try and release the entire bar and get the midgate down, if that works you can release the bar from the midgate. Put the bar back up, then put the window in and see if you can put the midgate back up. Also, crawl in the back and check your rain gutters, see if they are blocked by anything, do the same with the drains in the bed. You really shouldn't be seeing that much water

I had the problem with the midgate sticking on me as well. I believe it's because I don't use it that offen. All I did was pull hard on that sucker and it came down. I think I should lube it or something.

Good luck.

Jt take it to the dealer...yea yea I know its a HUGE pain in the a**...but at least they can break it and you need to have it documented

that might not be a bad idea. although i am one to try to fix it myself. i just do not want to tell you the wrong thing, and have something break. i would have to see what's going on before i would recommend something in this situation.

Guys,

thanks for all the info, i tried re-seating the window, and that released the midgate, it works fine now. I just hope it stops the leaking, it seems that the arrow on the window really needs to line up with the arrow on the mid bar thingy. That was the only way to get the midgate to release.

thanks again

love this site, its like having a service shop at your finger tips.

JT,
Assuming the midgate was properly aligned by the factory when installed, you need to get TWO clicks on each side of the midgate when you shut it. If you don't get two it will probably leak again.

To check that you have a weather tight seal, shine a strong light all around the gasket at dusk.

you should also get two clicks when placing the crossbar in place as well. check that the mid-gate does the same as mentioned above.

Sounds like it may have been frozen too. Up here in Boston we had freezing rain and my truck was a icebox this morning. If it got wet, it may have froze. Let us know what happened.

Good Luck!

A couple of months ago my mid-gate stuck. I became frustrated and used brute force (not that I would recommend this tactic), but it worked. Turned out that there were about a half-dozen strips of factory-installed sponge adheisive tape at the base of the mid-gate (bed-side). I disposed of the tape and haven't had any problems since. No noise, and no leaks. It seems reasonable that yours could be the same problem complicated by freezing.
Good luck,

Moe
