I posted this in a thread, but, the savings are so good, I thought it needed to be seen. I'll save $30+ an oil change!

I buy my Mibile one at Costco $24 for a 6-pack. Then I take it to the dealer for a free oil change and have them use my oil.
 
Walmart had the 5 quart Mobil 1 containers for $18.89, plus the extra quart for $4.39 and you are just a bit over $25.00 for Mobil1 :D I bought 3 5 quart containers yesterday.
 
Is this full synthetic or partial? It looks too high for standard non-syn oils. AND, it is worthless if you fail to purchase the equal high end oil filter. NOTE- get filters at Auto Zone as neither Wal-Mart or Target carry/stock them. AND be USRE to get proper weight 5w-30w. Look at your manual before you buy.

it was full syn 5W. they don't have Mobil1 filters at Pep boys either. only place I found them was a AutoZone also.

Full synthetic, and I buy my Mobil 1 Oil Filters at Autozone also (y)
 
Which oil filter you use has no effect on the lubrication properties of the oil. It may impact the cleanliness of the oil over a period of time but it does not render the oil "useless" if you dont use a Mobil 1 filter.
 
Actually, somebody in another thread brought up a good point..... you only use the filter for 3-5K, how much junk can get in it (hopefully) that M1 will get.... I'm actually trying the AC/Delco this time.

oh and disney, just use the preview/modify for typos.
 
Clarification- [to comments about oil useless vs worthless]. I was trying to get across that paying the highest price possible for oil then purchasing the weakest filter available is counterproductive. Yes it all works, but the low end filters tend to let more crud through or even do not hold up well for 3-5 K so why not get oil and filters that are compatible. There is a thread somewhere on here [I can't locate it again] that has an excellent report on virtually testing every oil filter on the market. Yes, it is 2 years old, but invaluable if you want a great comparison. Sorry for the lack of clarity and word choice. With the Mobil 1 oil it will function regardless as the expert opinion above establishes. High quality oil and filterering is just a throwback to prior years auto racing. Most important issue is regular changes.
 
I agree that it a waste to buy a cheap oil filter. At the very least I will use an AC-Delco filter PF59. Most of the time I use a Purolator "Pure One", I think they offer the best value for the $$$$. Purely a subjective opinion based on what I have read.
The Mobil 1 oil filter is superior to almost all the others, The problem is that they tend to be pricey and I NEVER go over 6000 miles between changes.

Since you brought it up, I use a brand called Colonite. I have never seen it in a store. One of the guys I work with at the Fire dept also works at an auto parts store and he orders it by the case. I have used nothing that works as well as Colonite. Most of the guys here swear by it.
I have never tried the brand you use, It does seem to be well liked on these boards.
We wax every single trucks we have at least once a month, so we do get a little practice at it.
 
Please clarify- it sounds like colonite is vehicle WAX, not some weird brand of Oil. Correct? If so, post this to the wax thread and someone can probably respond with details. If it is "OIL" please elaborate since I have never heard of such brand.
 
Until an expert chimes in, I'll just report what I've read on the topic... My understanding is that pretty much ALL filters that are SAE certified are okay to use if you change your oil at 3K-5K intervals. When you go for longer oil change intervals is when you might want to look into "higher end" filters as they normally have an increased capacity. Yes, some of the "higher end" filters can catch smaller particles, but the cost is generally decreased flow rate. Still, they must be within SAE specs, so they're probably just fine...

The study referred to in other posts might be this one. To summarize, it says to stay away from Fram and re-badged Fram filters (except for Fram Tough Guard, which is OK). It gives the AC-Delco Ultraguard Gold a thumbs up, but reports of problems with the AC-Delco Duraguard and the Mobil-1 filter in certain applications (it still gives them a thumbs up, too).
 
A/C Delco Ultraguard Gold (UPF-44) is the only one made...still made for 'Vettes and what I just put on my Avy yesterday when I had the oil changed using Mobil 1...this filter is okay to use even on the '02s from the correspondence I had with Chevrolet, possibly consolidating filters (I had a Mobil 1 filter equal to the PF-59 prior to this.)
The 'Vette LS-1 and my 5.3 are similar and the filters are compatable...hope this helps. (y) ;D :D ;) :cool:
