I am curious about people building speaker boxes into their midgates. I purchased a used midgate to modify. My plan is to add my speakers and amplifiers onto the back of the midgate. I have a PPI 15 band EQ I may mount so it can be accessed from the interior but I am not 100% certain yet.

This build will use Diamond Audio Hex drivers in all 4 doors. (2 way in rear, 3 way in front) and 2 old HART 10" subs in the mid gate with 5 old audio art pro series amplifiers (50HC amplifiers that put out 2x50 watts at 12 volts.. 2x75 at 14 volts or 1x375 at 14 volts.)

I also have a digital crossover that will be way over kill for this system but may be replaced with a simple 2 way crossover since that is all I need.

Anyhow my question is related to the experiences others have had with how to pass the sound waves into the passenger compartment. I am building this as a somewhat stealth install so that the interior of the vehicle doesn't have anything obvious.

The speakers will be in an approximately 1cuft box each. I plan to keep the window holder functional as well.
So as I see it I have two options. If I fire the subs directly through the carpet that the window sits up against when it is stored I have to install a switch so the subs won't fire. OR my other option is to put vents in the bottom of the midgate between the window mounts that hold the window into place. There are 4 places I could put sound "windows". I would expect to use either a Grill material or a metal mesh to protect the speaker way. This second method would actually use more space in the bed to mount the speakers since I would also need a large channel to fire through.

If I use the first configuration I plan to have the speakers on either side then stack the amplifiers in between the speakers. If I fire the speakers in through the bottom then I will likely built the amplifiers into the top of the box. The box will be totally weather proof and likely will be able to be moved into the seating area so the bed can be fully utilized when necissary. I expect the speaker box to sit on top of the rubber mat regardless.

I am also wondering how people are passing the large wires through to the box without having the wires exposed.

Thanks!
And pictures would be great too if you have something showing it.
I don't want to build a box from scratch because that won't look factory. I am leaning towards the holes in the bottom and trying to make it look as factory as possible. The strength won't be affected because the box will be bonded to the bottom of the midgate below the holes.
