Mods to do at the 2014 Worldwide Chevy Avalanche Get Together

I won't be in until Friday night, but between MS03, DouglasOak and myself we have the electric system pretty much licked. I'm sure there are others that I don't know personally that have a handle on it as well.
These bars shouldn't pose too much difficulty.
I hope not.  I think one of the bigger challenges would be how to mount them.  On my 02 they were cake...not sure what I'll do on my 13BD.

I didn't have any luck  with double sided tape on my AV so I drilled holes in the bumper lip to mount my line of fire.

I've got a some gently used parts from the 02 in the back of the truck that I dug out to bring with me tomorrow if anyone is interested

Red Spyder LED Tail lights- 2002-2006
Brand New in the package in channel vent visors 2002-2006- Dusty from being in storage since I bought them.. 3 years ago
Hypertech Power Programmer- Was on the 2002 not sure of exact year fitment past that but its unlocked and ready for a new truck
Stock Neon tube 3rd brake light from the 2002, I've heard these are hard to come by if someone needs a replacement..
I think I may have a couple more things
I would have posted earlier but I have been taking summer classes at WVU and haven't been home but just to go to work.. lol

Prices to be negotiated upon inspection... But let me tell ya, I don't wanna bring the stuff home, so if anyone is interested, We should be there around 3-4pm!

So I'm trying really hard to make all of life's pieces fall into place and if they do so just right today, I may make it out for the national GTG tonight or early tomorrow.  Looking to meet fellow Avy fans and meet some new people.
On this topic: When are ya'll planning do do these mods/swap mod info and where?  I'm really interested in this.
thx.
Mr.Jay

MrJay
We would really look forward to seeing you.
Got a huge crowd here tonight.
I counted 23 Avys today and long convoys on the streets in Madison.
We're expecting even more folks between now and tomorrow
Come on over the more the merrier.
Even if we can't do the mods, the camaraderie will more than make up

Hey guys,

Karl and I weren't able to hook up today to get the lights tied in.  On the drive home I was thinking about something:  If I hooked up the lights to the parking lights, wouldn't they flash with the turn signal?  Can I hook that up with the BCM like we were going to do with the tail-light leads?  After thinking about it on the way home I would want them on when the parking lights come on, but IF they could also flash with them accordingly, that would be a bonus.

Would I need to use resistors like we've had to do with the Sail Panel LED Mod?

Just thought I'd throw that out there...Hoping someone with better electrical skills can give me some tips. ;)

If you are referring to the sail panel LED's, the easiest way to do them (or at least how I did them), was to run the ground wire from each side to ground, then take the +12v line from each side, and "split" it into two (two on each side).  One side will get a diode only (same size as FTDRL/All-4-On-High), and the other side will get a diode and a 330 ohm resistor.

The resistor side of each will connect to the trailer harness for the left and right side (I believe this was the yellow and light green wires - it's been a while, this may be reversed!)  This is the left and right turn signal, which doubles as the "parking lights".

The non-resistor ends will both connect to the brown wire in the trailer harness (ie. brake lights).

Make sure you tape everything up good (I suggest soldering the wires and using the "paste" type of electrical tape to keep water out!)

No, I'm sorry, I should have been more clear.  We installed an LED light bar on each side of the AV, attached between the rocker panel and step.  We (Karl) ran the lines into the cab (What a PRO!!) and I was curious if I could tie in to the BCM using a similar method, or if I even needed to.

I didn't get to see the wires coming out of to led bar but do you remember offhand how many were there?
Reason I asked is mine came with a red +ve wire, black for ground, yellow that goes to the parking lights and a white that connects to the courtesy lights circuit. If I am not mistaken if you were to connect to the parking lights circuit somewhere at the bulb socket then yes it will blink with your turn signals. If it is at the BCM there may be a seperate circuit cor both features. That not to say it cannot be done with diodes to ensure the current flow goes only one way in the individual circuits. I'll defer to someone who has done it on a 2nd gen Avalanche though as I haven't done it myself.
Also for me my wires from under the truck went inside the inner wheel we'll cover and into the engine compartment so it was easier to run wires into the engine bay and on to the light sockets. While the way you are thinking of doing it will Definafely work don't forget you'll also have to run the passenger side inside the cab and across to the driver side to get to the BCM. IMHO it might gust be easier to run the parknv light wires to the bulb. The LEDs obviously don't draw that much current to create issues there.

Again that's just my $0.02

Mine has three:  Black for the Ground, White for the white LED's that I am hooking to the dome lights, and Orange for the Ambers - each light has their own wires, but I believe we connected the ground and whites together - the orange are separated to be able to hook left and right individually (they were ran inside through the firewall near the BCM)

So sorry I couldn't get back to finish up. We got packed up, went down to Big Boy for breakfast and then had to get on our way.
The weather didn't want to co operate anyhow. It was really coming down this morning!!!

I know what you want to do and it is possible with a resistor and a couple of diodes for each bar.

The Yellow wire is the Dome light circuit to illuminate the white LEDs upon unlock or entry.
The Red wire is the right side Amber LEDs
The Green wire is the left side Amber LEDs
And finally Black for Ground.

If we make a simple circuit to diode isolate the turn signal input from parking light input and add a 1K(1.5K?) resistor inline for parking lights, the following will happen.

Upon Unlock or door opening the White LEDs will light up along both running boards.
When Parking lights are on the Amber LEDs will light up dim, on both sides.

(470 ohm slightly dimmer, 1000 ohm dim, 1500 ohm very dim) ( I run about 3000 ohm on my sail panel (running light) LEDs personally, but use 1500 ohm for everyone else as I prefer them not too bright)
When the left turn signal is applied the Amber LEDs will flash bright, and the right side will remain constant (dim)
When the right turn signal is applied the right LEDs will flash bright, and the left Amber LEDs will remain dimly lit.

I believe this is what you are trying to accomplish.
I will PM you with a schematic in a couple days, after I get caught up at work,
and when it looks a little neater I will post a pic of it here for others to reference.

Hope this helps, DouglasOak

If you have problems or concerns doing this yourself, maybe you could have a Modding GTG /  trip to Santa Claus!!  (y)

Get in touch with me, a GTG would be a lot of fun, and a good way to get your favorite tech down that way to help with modding!!!

That would be awesome!  Lafsalot, Baby C and I are heading out to the Outer Banks, NC in August for a week, but we're here the last weekend of the month and beyond...here's a link to the HW schedule:

http://www.holidayworld.com/park-tickets/park-hours/

Unfortunately a lot of companies around here rent out the park in the first part of Sept. and after those the water park closes as the water gets too cold. So if you are interested in the water park (for the AWESOME Water roller coasters) then Labor-day weekend or Sept 13th would be the only options this year to go to HW.  Otherwise we'd have to do it next year.  They're getting their first steel coaster next year BTW:

Can't wait to try it out!

MODDING MONDAY!!!

Since DirtyGirl and I had today off, our Nationals weekend wasn't quite over yet.

MS03 2500 told me about a BedSlide for sale in Michigan, and said if I didn't scoop it up, he would.
Thanks again for the heads up B!

I absolutely love this thing. Should have picked one up years ago!!!

No problem those things are great, just I couldn't get my tool boxes in with it.

(y) That's has got to be the best mod on my truck.

Yeah you can find some good stuff on craigslist, the seller spelled slide wrong and got no response.
